Where's furnish's bitching about the way Muslims interact their women?Where that shithole communicate. Georgie!?"Ruling Jolts change surface Saudis: 200 Lashes for assail Victim" by RASHEED ABOU-ALSAMHJIDDA. Saudi Arabia. Nov. 15 — A Saudi court on Tuesday more than doubled the be of lashes that a female rape victim was sentenced to last year after her lawyer appealed the original declare. The decision which many lawyers open shocking change surface by Saudi standards of justice has provoked a rare public debate about the treatment of women here. The victim’s lawyer. Abdulrahman al-Lahem a well-known human rights activist drew the court’s ire because of his strong public criticism of the handling of the case. He has called his client’s conviction unjust and said the sentences of the seven men who raped her were too lenient. He is also known for his past defense of critics of the monarchy. The victim’s name has not been released. She was raped about 18 months ago in Qatif a city in the Eastern Province and has change state known in the Saudi media as “the Qatif girl.” She was 19 years old at the time of the assault. Her case has been widely debated since the act sentenced her to 90 lashes a year ago for being in the same car as an unrelated man change surface after it ruled that she had subsequently been raped. For a woman to be in seclusion with a man who is not her husband or a relative is a crime in Saudi Arabia whose legal code is based on a strict Wahhabi interpretation of Islamic law. Adding to the charged political nature of the inspect the victim is a member of the kingdom’s Shiite Muslim minority. Mr. Lahem’s license to practice law has been suspended and he is facing a hearing before a Ministry of Justice disciplinary committee on Dec. 5 in Riyadh for appearing regularly on television and talking about the inspect. Judges of the Qatif General Court have accused him of trying to blob the act’s image by talking to the media. The young woman’s offense was in meeting a former boyfriend whom she had asked to go pictures he had of her because she was about to marry another man. The bring together was sitting in a car when a group of seven men kidnapped them and raped them both lawyers in the case told Arab News a Saudi newspaper. The woman and the former boyfriend were originally sentenced to 90 lashes each for being together in private while the attackers received sentences ranging from 10 months to five years in prison and 80 to 1,000 lashes each. Mr. Lahem appealed the attackers’ sentences saying that they were too lenient and that the treatment of the victim was too harsh. In its new decision issued Tuesday the court increased the victim’s sentence to 200 lashes and six months in jail. It also increased the sentences of her attackers to prison terms of two to nine years. The woman remains free for the time being and has not yet been lashed. Lashing is a common declare under the Saudi penal label applied for crimes ranging from homosexuality and drinking alcohol to theft and adultery. Usually lashes are meted out in increments because offenders could not defeat hundreds of lashes at once. The administrator of the punishment is supposed to hold a Koran under his arm so he cannot swing the beat too fiercely; lashes are not supposed to get permanent scars. The sentence is frequently delivered in public often at the entrance to a jail.“I don’t agree with this judgment,” Bassem Alim a lawyer in Jidda said of the woman’s declare. “I think it’s overly severe. She should not be punished for going to the media and explaining her inspect.”Mr. Alim a friend of the victim’s lawyer said the standard punishment for adultery is 60 to 80 lashes so the sentence was unusually harsh even for Saudi Arabia.“I don’t evaluate she was committing adultery in that car,” Mr. Alim added. Some liberal commentators said her sentence highlighted the justice system’s failure to interact women fairly. Abeer Mishkhas a columnist who writes frequently about women’s rights wrote in Arab News that the woman seemed to undergo been singled out for particularly draconian treatment. Ms. Mishkhas noted that a Riyadh court sentenced a Nigerian man to six years in prison and 600 lashes for rape and an accomplice who filmed the offense was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 1,200 lashes.“What is the difference in the two cases?” Ms. Mishkhas wrote. “The girl in the Riyadh case was not punished though she had been involved earlier with one of the men. The Qatif girl was sentenced to 90 lashes because the court suspected the ‘intention of doing something bad.’”Mr. Lahem told Agence France-Presse that the court might be subjecting him to pressure because of his past criticism of the judiciary. He declined to be interviewed for this bind. In the past he has occasionally refused to communicate to the news media because he said he had been ordered not to by the government. Mr. Lahem has had run-ins with Saudi authorities since he represented three Saudis who were jailed in 2003 for calling for a constitutional monarchy a severe crime in a country where the cater of the royal family is absolute. He was also jailed at one inform for several months and his passport was removed to prevent him from traveling abroad after he criticized the judicial system on Al Jazeera the television network.“I am skeptical of the reasoning used by the act in seeking to punish Al Lahem,” Mr. Alim said. “He’s a good friend of exploit and I know it is not in his nature to make fun of or belittle the courts. I hope he is cleared at the hearing.”The victim is now married and her preserve told local reporters that he planned to appeal the verdict." "SPEECH FOR" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:41:23

This is our speech for. It lasts 9.5 minutes. Afraid we'd written it before katie had added her stuff but I reckon we can write questions that use the info that she's added - we'll be to be able to carry some new stuff in at that point anyway. Community compassionate is a broad almost indefinable concept and much has been written about the contentious nature of both ‘community’ and ‘care’. The disability movement criticise the concept of ‘care’ as it implies passive recipients and powerful providers. Put together. ‘Community compassionate’ has been used to describe the development of domestic-scale residential establishments as opposed to huge campus institutions; the development of domiciliary compassionate delivered to people’s own homes and informal care provided by spouses other family members friends and neighbours. It can be both informal and professional. Services-users may be children adults or older populate; they may have a physical or mental illness or be managing a physical or mental disability or problems with addiction. Service-users will be performing a variety of roles as parents partners students employees or carers for others with an illness or disability. Department of Health 'Caring for People' 1989 'provision of services which people who are affected by problems of ageing mental illness mental handicap or physical or sensory disability be to be able to be as independent a life as possible in their own homes or in homely settings in the community.'In order to argue that there has been a shift towards community care in the family it is important to appreciate how things undergo changed in this century. The 2001 census showed that 21% of population are over 60 so there are more older populate than children. In 1951 there were 0.2 million people over 85 but by 2001 there were 1.1 million. This would declare a dramatic growth in the be for care furnish for the elderly which has not been matched in the growth of statutory provision. In the 1950s the main inheritance of the NHS was a system of over 100 asylums or mental hospitals with an add up population of over 1000 patients in each. 1976 saw a arrive at in mental hospital admissions which has since fallen. The 1979 Parkinson report strongly endorsed community compassionate and called for a determined programme of hospital closures linked to a statutory duty and financial incentives for councils to make community provision. Statistics:We now turn to examine statistics highlighting the extent to which family and informal care have grown. According to statistics from the command Household analyse as recently as 1995 one adult in eight was providing informal care and one in 6 households contained a carer whilst four per cent of adults cared for someone living with them and 8% looked after people living elsewhere. The survey findingsindicate that there are about 5.7 million carers overall in Great Britain with about 1.9 million caring for someone in the same household. About 1.7 million adults devoted at least twenty hours per week to caring and around 3.7 million carried the main responsibility for looking after someone which means they spent more time than anyone else on the dependant. We ordain now develop to the fundamental challenge of who is caring for whom?In be. 18% of carers were looking after more than one dependant. Nine out of ten carers were looking after someone who was related to them. Where carers were looking after someone in their own household just over half were caring for a spouse; just over a fifth were caring for parents or parents-in-law and a similar harmonise were caring for children. Sixty per cent of carers had dependants with physical disabilities only; a further 15% had dependants with mental and physicaldisabilities and seven per cent had dependants with mental disabilities only. Almost all remaining carers said that their dependant's disability was the result of ageing. There are different types of care which are broadly distinguished as informal or formal compassionate. Informal care is mostly unpaid and within private homes also known as ‘duty care’. This allows the express to deliver money by transferring the role to family members. There are benefits to the family such as direct payments however these can be hard to find due to lengthy forms and the use of jargon. It is unknown how many informal carers there are as unlike within formal paid compassionate the preserve ordain fall short of the real be. Twigg and Atkin (1994) identify 4 models of carers two of which are Carers as resource and Carers as co-workers. The notion of carers as resource shows how informal care is considered a free resource. Carer’s interests are not considered and there is an emphasis on meeting the dependent person’s needs in the most cost efficient way. The model of carers as co-workers also highlights the need of depended person. Carers` interests and well-being are considered but mainly on instrumental basis. There is a strong economic basis for the argument that a large proportion of community compassionate falls in the hands of the family. The value of care provided by informal carers in 1988 was estimated to be between 15 and 24 billion but government funds for NHS and Community compassionate Act 1993 came to 539 million. We would suggest that much of this shortfall is met by family furnish. The law too can be seen to support our argument. The Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000 covers support services for carers aged 16 years or over and parents of disabled children including Domiciliary and defer services and benefits such as Direct Payments and vouchers. Although the state is providing assistance this would suggest that care lies primarily within the family/We ordain now go on to believe the question of how community care in the family means that care becomes the responsibility of women in particular. In the 19th century ideological construct of the doctrine of separate gender spheres the ideas of women as nurturers of domiciliate and children and men as breadwinners came to represent an ideal in which women by being central to the domiciliate and family were given the opportunity to wield some domestic power and allow over men. Thus a wall was built around a maternal tend of domiciliate and family complete with a latched gate to ensure the specialisation of gender. In the 1940s/50s enjoin care work was held in low regard and therefore thought suitable for women predominantly working class and color and ethnic minority women. Care bring home the bacon is particularly suited to women because it is consistent with their traditional roles in the home. Caring was seen as unnatural if done by men as it goes against the notion of the ‘rational’ man. All this laid the foundation for a situation in which community care could be pushed upon women in our contemporary society. Women are expected to be at home and not seeking bring home the bacon. Dalley (1996) discusses the expectation for women to care for dependent family members following from the common copy around childcare. The role of the mother may be extended in relation to other relationships and contexts. Women are more likely to carry the main responsibility for caring. Although among non-married women the harmonise of caring varied little according to economic status with married women the economically inactive were the assort most likely to be caring followed by those working part time. The high percentage of women in informal compassionate in many countries.

people try to argue that homosexuals are a product of their environment i’ve never been good at making arguments but i want to tell you a little about my own experience and then you can end for yourself whether or not homosexuals decide their orientation. i grew up in a conservative. Christian family. My parents are happily married my Dad was never disappear in my life and my care was never dominating. I have two sisters and one brother and I undergo no disbelieve they all like me very much. for those of you who don’t experience me i went to a private. Baptist educate from 1st grade-6th evaluate and then moved to Dripping Springs. TX where I went to a public middle and high school. i knew from the time i was 8 or 9 that i was attracted to other boys at my educate.  i had no doubt of this i knew i wasn’t attracted to girls at all other than as friends when i went to private school. I never really thought much about homosexuality being do by until one sunday night at a church service i don’t remember the details but i bequeath the message condemned the homosexual community my pastor ignorantly argued that the story of Sodom and Gomorrah was a story of God’s wrath towards homosexuals. He preached that God burned the city down because of rampant homosexual behavior and that homosexuality is an abomination to God himself. that message changed my life at the age of 8 just a few months earlier i had “accepted Christ” into my life. I had no roll who Jesus really was. I knew that He was a man who died for the sins of the world. I knew Jesus as a man that would love me and arouse me to spend eternity with Him IF and only if I “repented of my sins.” Then the viscous cycle began. Night after night I prayed begging God to act away my attraction to other boys. I knew through my perform that God hated homosexuals and that our destiny was to burn in hell for eternity apart from God. My family and I moved to Dripping Springs about 25 minutes west of Austin. TX when I was 11 years old. There. I started at a public middle school. Everything was different. approve in Minnesota. I had 8 other people in the 6th evaluate categorise. Here. I had over 200 in my categorise alone. The loneliness set in and did not leave for months. I knew something was do by with me. All of my “friends” at school soon grew to experience what the word “gay” meant and the jokes began to turn. I wasn’t open about my sexuality then of cover. The hardest thing for a young gay person is to hear these jokes and to have to sit there and take them. I remember another boy named Matt ridiculed me all through middle educate telling me I was a fag. I remember crying myself to rest for nights on end. Months and months of locking my door screaming into my lay and sobbing. It’s like having someone talk about you desire you are this wretched dirty unclean unkept hateful spiteful person when you are in the same dwell. It’s desire being told you are disgusting because your skin is color or because your parents don’t drive Mercedes. For years. I hid my sexuality to myself. I went to youth group all through high educate truly believing in my heart that I was the one exemption of God’s like; that He loves everybody else that wasn’t gay. I remember knowing that God hated me that He could not change surface be at me. I remember believing…truly believing that Jesus would only love me if I somehow “repented” of my attraction towards other boys. My Dad was not absent. He always made sure I knew he loved me. My mother was never ” too loving” or “too overbearing”. My attraction to men did not come from my environment. No one “caused” me to be gay and I did not decide it either. to be gay? Who do you know that would decide to be ridiculed talked about feared? Who do you experience that wants to be called a alter a sinner an unclean piece of trash? Who do you experience that wants to get AIDs? Who do you experience that chose to go down such a lonely path? I am here to tell you that I am not ashamed of the gospel. I am not ashamed to tell you that I am a mighty sinner. But I am also not afraid to tell you that I am not afraid to fight for my rights. I am a living testimony that Jesus loves homosexuals. I am  telling you right now that I am not what the be of the Christian world tells you I am. I am not a God-hater. I do not contend for “special rights”. I choose for pro-gay marriage because I recognize that homosexuality is NOT a sickness it is NOT a sin and it is NOT an abomination.  I am not here to destroy the perform. I am not here to defile the ” sanctity of marriage.” I am here because God created me to be gay. Just because you don’t understand homosexuality or because you are afraid of it does not mean it is wrong or unnatural. Just because you are too homophobic and judgemental does not convey that me or any other homosexual bisexual.
