Metropolis magazine which I think is the beat English-language magazine in lacquer did a special about vintage clothing and shopping for used clothes in Tokyo is really easy because I have open so many great surprisingly really cheap vintage stores all over the place. The Metropolis article recommended Screaming Mimi's near Daikanyama station. Star Verry in Shimokitazawa and two others I haven't visited called Mink and KMP. Screaming Mimi's Tokyo is the sister store to Screaming Mimi's on Lafayette Street in New York. I have visited the NYC and the Tokyo one and think both stores are beat of great things but they're both a bit overpriced. Their clothes are also both a bit "safe" and not really exciting or unique. But if you desire vintage designer clothing they're a nice hold on in both cities. Star Verry is really alter and there are at keast 20 vintage clothing stores a few steps away from Shimokitazawa Eki. I experience I keep talking about that Shimokitazawa but it really is so rad. My favorite vintage hold on in Tokyo so far is called Kinji. It's in Harajuku across from La Foret (the best mall you will ever see in your life.. there's a Jan Svankmajer museum exhibition going on alter now in that mall. See what I mean?) I like Kinji because it's huge has tons of selection and is extremely cheap. I got such a great avoid there for 345 yen (3 dollars) and I got the apparel I wore to at Kinji too. Kinji is awesome and super easy to find since it's right under The Gap store in Harajuku. Above it there's a vintage chain store called Hanjiros and that's fun to investigate because it's massive but I haven't open anything there quite yet. Just to give you a tip: in Tokyo vintage stores are almost always called "used clothing shops" so if you ask about vintage stores most populate won't know the word vintage. So if you want to experience ask for "used" shops. Where are your favorite clothing stores in Tokyo? Please advise anything to me.
Anything you do will be appreciated and noted!
You can now buy music and give All The Music News at the same time by using our very own !
So for many years now I have done most of my clothing shopping at vintage clothing stores. Sure around town there are plenty of trendy high end vintage stores but I undergo open that sometimes the real treasures that no one knows about are at Goodwill. Plus the selection to decide from is enormous. You be a sofa there ya go. You need a hippi lava lamp; come up there ya go. You be a vintage VHS of "On Golden Pond" ( Henry Fonda was wonderful in that by the way) or a used Wilson Philips album ( disregard that one) come up there ya go. There is one divide however that should be avoided at all costs..... The back up hand underwear divide. There is an invisible lie that you don't cross with professional vintage shoppers and buying used "undies" is one of them. Pretty much anything else goes but you don't buy used underwear. So here is my problem. About once a year I go through my closet and gift a clump of clothes to Goodwil ( vintage clothing needs to be a river not a swamp act the forward motion going to the next generation). I'm starting to alter out my hit and underwear drawer and I evaluate to myself "Am I committing the cardinal sin by donating used boxers". I really don't know if I'm in some way breaking my own command. Granted a used pair of "Calvins" might be a little less harmless than a sweet pair of Hanes from the year 1973 but still rules are rules. I'm really sorry to go all "Marlon Rando" on you but I be some clarity. You Know what I'm going to see heap and Bryce tomorow to do a little vintage clothing shopping. I know Rick is a seasoned veterin. I think I'll ask him about this grey area. Until then the boxers will just have to be in a bag in the remove. Ya know I conclude exceed now it's good to communicate about it. I really am sorry to waste your time with my random chatter but I'm bored. Two days left until we hit the road. I can't act. Goodnight and see ya tomorow. Jason*obtain: Lifehouse's *

stacey ditata is owner of the remix a vintage clothing obtain that recently made the act from the del ray neighborhood of alexandria to capitol hill if you never made it over the connect to analyse out the amazing racks of 40s skirt suits. 50s party dresses and 60s brocades (and more! so much more! and i should experience - i worked at the del ray location for over a year!) do yourself a favor and continue over to the new digs this saturday night for the grand opening celebrate stacey will be the one decked out in what will most likely be the most amazing vintage apparel and jewelry of the night and YOU'LL be the one thanking her for bringing the remix this side of the potomac how would you describe your personal style and to what extent is it reflected in your hold on?My personal style is very classic. My body (and my soul) like to break up into my beautiful collection of 50’s strapless velvet cocktail dresses with the big poofy tulle underskirts. Or my tailored 60’s suits with googobs of beading. That to me is beauty. I anticipate that is reflected in my collection here at The Remix: a lot of texture and embellishments classic styles from all the decades - the 40s through the 80s. I evaluate I appeal to that customer with classic sensibilities (not that I don’t appreciate a little sass and some funkytown in my Remix collection which you will sight downstairs). But yes. I do evaluate "classic pretty" is always in and that an opera coat is a fashion necessity! That comprehend of style is the first thing you experience when you enter The Remix did you always be to undergo a shop? how did the remix go to be?No my earliest creative achievement was at 5. I kept my first make design sketchbook and I used to draw dream clothes. I came to DC to be a fashion designer of all things.. in the 80s in DC??? Needless to say. I found other employment in sell but in a creative position as a window designer for Woodies at Metro bear on. My make design skills were transferred to designing environments for clothing as a visual merchandiser. I did that for 13 years. The Remix came to be as a response to my frustration with shopping vintage shops which tended to be cluttered and visually undisciplined. It drove me crazy! I wanted to lend the sophistication of my sell expertise to the industry. I entangle that the clothing deserved a exceed stage how do you go about choosing pieces? do you act current trends into consideration? My undergo as a window designer allowed me to develop skills in choosing the beat item out of a huge multi-level department store to best represent a current turn or statement; to literally be able to forbid merchandise and provoke someone to run into the hold on impulsively! That skill has made me very good at "wow calculate" and highly discriminating as a buyer in choosing the best quality and most iconic vintage items out there. I undergo to admit that I am one of those people who react to purchase the audio attach when I go to an art gallery opening - I desire to believe art and make through my own perceptions and experiences. But yes. I usually check out a magazine but mostly after the fact just to praise myself on my own fashion intuition. I can usually feel the trends before they happen. And say. "Darn that was my idea and be I undergo a whole pace of it!"what are your favorite items in the shop right now?My favorite items are by far my coats. I like coats. I personally own over 35 myself. I evaluate The Remix has the beat coat collection in the whole wide world. I start to collect them for the shop in the move and by the fall I am stocked with great quality cashmere tweed leather fur-trimmed and wool coats! My favorite cover now available is a 60s suede displace cover with optional belt and huge chinchilla clutch. Awesome and Wow! If it fit me. I would undergo kept it. But I experience it is meant for some other glam girl (letting go and sharing are philosophical skills one must hit the books as a vintage obtain owner) how did you choose your new location? did you believe anywhere else in the city?I always had a really good feeling about Eastern merchandise - I really identified with the artistic sincerity and bohemian integrity of the vendors. The area had a lot of soul and I always said if I moved The Remix to DC I would act to The Hill. My real estate negociate did try to move back and forth me other areas desire Adams Morgan and Bethesda but nah. I felt my intend was to back up create make sell on The forge. I have been told I am a little bit of a "revolutionary," which I find humorous. I anticipate I do like to be on the advance. What artist doesn’t?any advantages to being in DC?The advantages of being in DC are huge! The client locate is highly dynamic - indicative of a big city. Suburbia tries
to be suburbia but sadly always ends up being suburbia. Suburbia was historically created in the 50s to act a "safe community to live" to flee the real and sometimes dangerous pulses of city life. This tends to work against make (the woman you sold a stylish cocktail change to three years ago you see today pushing a stroller with an infant trailed by a toddler in a Big Wheel. You experience its over!). In DC there is so much diversity culturally and professionally. People in a city want to go out of the fashion safety zone. There is lots of family cram but lots of other stuff too! I love it!what's your take on DC call in general? From a wide-eyed 20 year old who came to DC to be a fashion designer in ’84. I see DC has developed tremendously towards a unique and expressive call. Although inherently conservative because of the political and governmental office limitations there is a strong wish to break remove of the monotony of the grey and navy suit and find your Fashion Self - especially on The forge. I sold a funky printed poly mini change to a forge staffer this June. In response to my question of whether she would wear that to work she replied. "Heck ya and I work on the surprise!" Now. I watch those boring CNN newscasts just to see some crazy printed poly dress flash across the check. Then I will know I am a adjust revolutionary and that I undergo done my job to affect make on The Hill! anything you'd like people to experience about the remix that you're not usually asked? As all of us jaunt through our professional lives and experience various jobs that help cause us and develop us. The Remix has been a professional opportunity that I created for myself and [was] inspired by my creative life experiences and creative yearnings — theatre literature philosophy spacial design visual art and history - all wrapped up in a obtain that sells vintage clothes. I hope visiting The Remix ordain give all creative populate the confidence to define themselves in their own professionally unique and creative way. In fashion and in life!interview: morgan photos courtesy of stacey ditata and the remix is located at 645 pennsylvania ave SE so get get going over there.
Once upon a measure when my hubs and I decided to get married in Vegas,we (construe I) took a move of faith that the chapel we chose would be a suitable vessel for pledging our like. Incredulous that there was no book on the affect we set out to create our own. We even nabbed a literary agent! Yes,we have a lovely collection of rejection letters from Penguin to Workman Publishing to be it.
