So here's what I'm thinking: Being a guy means I know guys. And there's one critically true thing about guys that all women learn sooner or later--and that you should definitely learn sooner which is where I come in. And that truth is that men don't change. You cannot change a man.
Anything that you say or do in hopes of changing a man is positively destined to fail.
that he is who he's going to be. If there are things about your potential life-mate that you don't like -- little habits personality quirks major behavior tendancies -- you need to ask yourself whether or not you can live with those things. If the answer's no then move on to Bachelor Number Three because Bachelor Number One isn't your guy.
But here's the thing about that. Relative to whatever it is about any given guy that you think is a problem ask yourself this question: Is that thing a matter of values or taste? If he's behaving in a way that runs contrary to your
then that's a serious issue. But if it's only a matter of taste--of preference of just when it comes right down to it of him doing things
than you do -- then that's a whole other deal. That's something you need to think about in a different way than you do things he's doing or saying that are incompatible with your core life values.
issue? If not (and it doesn't seem to be: knowing a man rides a motorcycle tells you nothing about his character) then you need to decide whether or not you're okay with him riding a motorcycle. Because you're in love with a man who
problem not his. There's simply nothing you can do to change the fact that he rides a motorcycle. You need to either be okay with his riding a motorcycle or you have to say it's too much and be ready to leave him over it.
problem by complaining about it or trying to make him feel guilty about it or (even) crying about it. Sure at the time you do those things a guy may respond to the emotionality of the moment by saying (and perhaps even believing) that he will change -- but he won't. Because once the drama has cleared something inside of him (which he may not even consciously register) is going to reassert itself and begin telling him that you don't actually have a right to tell him who and how he should be. And that's going to put him right back on the path he was on when you first met him the one he's been on all his life.
Randal I think you were just bothered that he wrote it in the style that would appear in Cosmopolitan rather than Focus on the Family. He didn't realize he was writing for a theologian like yourself. I think a better way to state his intent in the article would be. Women please do not expect to change a man's habits personality or interests to make him the perfect man. Men only change when they are convinced they want to change not because someone threatens to withhold their love. It's sad seeing women deceived that their man has changed because they don't want to accept the guy simply isn't a match if she can't get over him liking to eat at Taco Bell every Sunday after Church. If this is a core issue in your life it would be better to leave. If it's something that just annoys you but is not heresy get over it or move on. Ryan Moure
You are in disagreement with yourself in this article not to mention in disagreement with the doctrine of Christ and the Apostles of the early church."And that truth is that men don't change. You cannot change a man.". "(By the way: I'm not saying men can't change; of course they can. I'm saying that you can't make your man change -- or predict when he'll change or how or why. People only change from the inside out never from the outside in.)". Psa 55:19 God will give ear and humble them he who is enthroned from of old. Selah because they do not change and do not fear God.(ESV)If we love Him if we fear (reverence) Him we will change. Change is critical for a True Christian "Rom 13:12 The night is far spent the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armour of light."Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ and make not provision for the flesh to fulfil the lusts thereof. Just a few examples of the necessity of change
Randal: This article ends with these words: "By the way: I'm not saying men can't change; of course they can. I'm saying that you can't make your man change -- or predict when he'll change or how or why. People only change from the inside out never from the outside in."See? So we're actually not in disagreement at all. Isn't that just so lovely?

New Ads Aim at Single Women

Perhaps illustrating that point. 20 million of the 47 million single women eligible to choose didn’t enter a voting booth in November 2004. These ladies are far from a negligible assort — the Caucus reported in that independent women make up about 25 percent of the electorate — and their numbers are rising.
The activist group Women’s Voices. Women Vote is on a mission to engage single women who are the nation’s largest bloc of non-voters in the electoral affect. The organization hopes its latest series of public function announcements helps connect the “marriage gap,” the term for how single women live bring home the bacon and vote differently than married women.
The three are shot on a set made to look like the Oval Office. They feature a mix of regular women sitting behind that powerful desk as well as celebrities desire “Seinfeld” feature Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Christine Lahti of “Chicago Hope.”
The ads also reach out to younger women by showcasing Amber Tamblyn of “Joan of Arcadia,” Sarah Paulson of “Deadwood” and Jurnee Smollett of the upcoming enter “The Great Debaters,” who may be best known from her “Full House” days as Michelle Tanner’s best friend Denise. (Yep she’s old enough to vote.)The longest cut. “conceive of,” gives check time to the actresses and non-celebrity women including an athlete nurse firefighter and single mom. A Barbra Streisand version of “America the Beautiful” plays in the background.
We hear Streisand hits a high note and listen to a few more enthusiastic statements before Ms. Louis-Dreyfus ends the bit by asking. “Come on who do you want in here? You end.”
Another P. S. A called “create by mental act,” is mostly a condensed version of “Dream.”
The third video. “Magician,” features Ms. Tamblyn herself a proud voter since 2004. She tells the story of Farrah a magician who’ll be voting for the first measure next November. As Farrah performs her tricks around the Oval Office. Tamblyn notes that voting “isn’t magic it just feels like it.”
At the end of the clips the voice of Christine Lahti directs viewers to where they can take their first steps toward voter registration. Ms. Lahti also wrote a in the Huffington affix Sunday imploring single women to voice their political opinions.
W. V. W. V measure made headlines for its “” series where celebrity women suggestively spoke about their first time … voting.
It’s a nice ad but I wish it didn’t cerebrate so much on Presidential Politics - there are other elections that are just as important like voting to fund the building of a road or municipal building voting for representatives to local government. PTA issues etc.
Sure. National Elections are big issue items but local elections and votes on local issues may be more important to than these because they have a more immediate effect on us than the what is being debated nationally.
Finding ways to get people to vote should not just be restricted to just which new Mayor. Senator or President we elect - there are more issues just as important and they should not be ignored.
Many of my “sex and the city” single friends hate discussing politics. When it is brought up they look uncomfortable because they don’t experience much about the subject. They prefer talking about the latest restaurants and sample sales and their measure and efforts are spent on meeting “the one”. I don’t think Christine Lahti telling them to vote will alter much of a difference. A better idea is to have mixers involving politics. And I think topics that may get their attention are: (1) compete pay; (2) anti-retaliation measures for bringing sexual harassment suits; (3) maternity leave; and (4) pro-choice issues and discussion of women’s health issues desire mammograms and pap smears.
What you say is true. Ned but turnout for all voters drops off in those elections. Presidential raises always have the highest turnout therefore presidential raises are the natural venue to encourage groups with the lowest turnout rates to start voting. Once in the booth hopefully they’ll return for other elections. All turnout efforts should lauded.
sister i don't want to appear like if you don't have a man you're a loser but i'm telling you: my money and my graduate degree don't keep me change on saturday nights eventually your friends are married with kids and you sight yourself making every night a blockbuster night with your cats change surface my gynecologist told me to go up if i wanted to undergo babies it's probably too late for me but deliver yourself sight balance in your life if you be to get married in your thirties you undergo to go away looking hard for prospects when you are in your late twenties because you'll be amazed when one day you open your eyes and realize that all men be to undergo poof! dissapeared i wish i had construe this ten years ago oh all this coming from a "feminist".. somebody who was very proud of her "independence" a feminist that is very educated and very lonely...
You'll probably desire it. I sight Molloy is kind of "Applied Fussell." The danger is that I personally got a little too image-oriented and such reading his books. There's a lot to be said for working hard and getting results and really the best / only hope for a young man with a technical background in a low-status job is to succeed in his job rather than being put off by the lowliness of it all. I'm trying to be results-oriented these days and accept my status (for the measure being).
Molloy also wrote a book about "How to work the competition into to the ground," which is quite unlike the others as it focuses on results and production rather than presentation.
The reason that some women are still single and childless in their 30's and 40's is probably because they have a low sex drive in comparison to their married counterparts. I convey guys sight time to have a like life even though they bring home the bacon hard and undergo acquired degrees. I evaluate this nonsense of blaming career and education for their single status is a fill of crap. If come up educated successful men can get married and have kids there is no reason that women in a similar situation can't at least be married. Do these women ever stop to think why they are so driven to succeed in the corporate world but are not as driven to sight a mate?
It seems that women do a much better job of that than men these days (see the comments here about the attractive sociable yet high-achieving girls at Bedford. MA).
Now that almost all women work (and are a majority in college etc.) what does it convey for a woman to be 'career-oriented'? A public educate teacher with a know's in education probably would be called 'highly-educated go woman' by many journalists despite trivially easy classes and 3-months off each year. A woman gunning to be CEO of Proctor & Gamble is in a very different category. (same goes for men)
I do see that female graduate students are relatively uninterested in dating. Many of them are with a high educate / college boyfriend and the remainder don't seem to care much at all about relationships for the time being.
I suspect it was written by a religious. Liberty University-type educated highly conservative pro-family anti-abortion young white male w/ no girlfriend.
A young man desire that would have a girlfriend or might be married. Deeply religious and conservative people have traditional views on marrying early. And from what I understand fundamentalist churches are very effective matchmakers. Religious colleges too - it's a reasonable anticipate that the percentage of students at a school like Liberty who are engaged (or even married) at the time they graduate is way higher than at most secular colleges.
On the other align of the spectrum at least based on populate I know or experience about young men with liberal/radical political views be to do okay as come up. They may be less likely to unify young but they'll do fine in the dating and sex department.
approve in 1980 women in that age group who had completed three years of graduate school were 14% less likely to be married than women.

PROLIFERATINGIf you want to predict which neighborhoods are becoming cleaned up and gentrified the fastest just look for banks and girls girls & the former 2nd avenue deli chaseVia the a new on the recent massive proliferation of tip branches in New York reveals that the wealthiest neighborhoods get dumped with the most banks. ( is also keeping track.)According to. New York has about a million more single women than single men. The New Yorker has an interesting piece on It seems that "the presence of women indicates civic health," as they are less likely to allow foul odors homeless people or crumbs on tabletops. The bank inform does not include the East Village/LES on their 20 wealthiest list and no one seems to be counting girls in my neighborhood but it isn't difficult to see that the LES is awash with tip branches and young single women. I am not sure what to conclude from all this other than that the presence of smelly homeless people and messy crumbs will undoubtedly continue to change state on the Lower East align.
Jeremiah---while banks are proliferating on then LES so are BARS---I gamble there are atleast three times as more of them as there was in say. 2000---and I think that is true for other areas in the city (say Park angle) as come up. Strange that no one has pointed that out. Bob (cityboy)
Good point about the bars. My anticipate on the proliferation of bars in NYC is because for the price of a drink (outrageously over-priced) is almost the cost of an entree these days. Why spend $$$ on dozens of chefs when you can pay bartenders less to open a store cap or pour drinks.
Plenty of folks point out every day that there are too many bars downtown. There are way too many bars and too damned much drinking going on.. and I'm one who has to have a consume on a regular basis. Mayor Mike won't let us smoke in the bars because its bad for our health but the health problems regular civil disorder traffic conjestion and its air pollution all the prove of all that booze being drunk doesn't be to reach him at all as the revenue be adrift produced by booze sales flows into the city coffers : not a word about any of these problems passes his lips. Today it seems that there may be increased competion coming between bars and banks competing for the limited lay in places desire downtown NYC. Its a contrast that has nothing to do with anyone who actually lives in the neighborhood. This is all a matter for players which are mostly from outside the neighborhoods. Banks are willing to pay a lot of money for anchor locations in areas like downtown NYC. Banks are likely prefered by landlords for a be of reasons so bar owners should be concerned. To some extent the two have a symbiotic relationship and thus can be expected to be found together. No matter if you are one of the poor bastards who live where the bars and banks are ( they do seem to be open together often now )you just have to live with the problems. They lay expend to the nieghborhood together. Don't evaluate Mayor Mike to back up because his city government and his friends in real estate are making a lot of money.
Any city gets what it admires will pay for and ultimately deserves.... We want and be tin-can architecture in a tinhorn grow. And we will probably be judged not by the monuments we buildbut by those we have destroyed.--New York Times editorial. 1963

It’s all motherhood and apple-pie stuff reinforcing cultural conventions right down to the white wedding. The wedding scene is beautiful but if you listen to the music you hear the melody of one of the first songs in the movie. “What do you do with a problem like Maria?” Maria is passionate and free spirited and determined and the nuns who sing the song experience that she is simply not suited to a quiet life in a convent. So what do you do with a passionate free spirited and determined woman? Marry her off of course and get her back under control.
But what if there are no men available? This is the topic which Virginia Nicholson examines in
There had always been spinsters but on this scale they were something else. Male reaction was hysterical. Marriage and motherhood were what women had always been for. Without them the abyss opened. They must be shipped to the colonies. The Daily Mail deplored the situation and books on psychology gave warning that the single woman was a danger to society morality and her own sanity. But the real nightmare was that she might hit the books to do without men altogether.
These men were right to be alarmed. By a cruel irony the war was an opportunity a contend to the patriarchy. It opened up the job market and the professions making economic independence possible. The book follows a path - gradual faltering uneven - away from the post-war sense of loss and hopelessness through a affect of self-reinvention for women arriving at a inform where work public function jaunt and friendship had created enough happy single women to justify men’s fear that life without a preserve and children was not only possible but could be fun.
The power dynamics here are fascinating. I don’t think that it’s single women per se that are threatening. It’s
single women who have property and income in their own right and thus undergo cater of their own. These women are a threat to the established order.
I undergo been turning a thought over in my mind for some time that real citizenship is not linked to the formal structures of citizenship but to the substantive exercise of cater. If this is the case unless you marry the problems off and carry them under the control of their husbands then powerful single women are citizens and new citizens dilute the power that existing citizens hold. Hence the post-war anxiety of men.
The review concludes by describing these single women as spirited and stoical precursors of modern feminism. I’m not quite sure what is meant by that. Although feminism is a set of beliefs and theories about the fundamental equality of men and women. I think it can also be constructed as a way of living. Aristotle taught that the way to learn a virtue was to practise it until it becomes part of your engrave. I evaluate the spinsters of the post-war years weren’t precursors of feminism - they
