New Ads Aim at Single Women

Posted by ~Ray @ 2008-07-01 07:24:16

Perhaps illustrating that point. 20 million of the 47 million single women eligible to choose didn’t enter a voting booth in November 2004. These ladies are far from a negligible assort — the Caucus reported in that independent women make up about 25 percent of the electorate — and their numbers are rising. The activist group Women’s Voices. Women Vote is on a mission to engage single women who are the nation’s largest bloc of non-voters in the electoral affect. The organization hopes its latest series of public function announcements helps connect the “marriage gap,” the term for how single women live bring home the bacon and vote differently than married women. The three are shot on a set made to look like the Oval Office. They feature a mix of regular women sitting behind that powerful desk as well as celebrities desire “Seinfeld” feature Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Christine Lahti of “Chicago Hope.” The ads also reach out to younger women by showcasing Amber Tamblyn of “Joan of Arcadia,” Sarah Paulson of “Deadwood” and Jurnee Smollett of the upcoming enter “The Great Debaters,” who may be best known from her “Full House” days as Michelle Tanner’s best friend Denise. (Yep she’s old enough to vote.)The longest cut. “conceive of,” gives check time to the actresses and non-celebrity women including an athlete nurse firefighter and single mom. A Barbra Streisand version of “America the Beautiful” plays in the background. We hear Streisand hits a high note and listen to a few more enthusiastic statements before Ms. Louis-Dreyfus ends the bit by asking. “Come on who do you want in here? You end.” Another P. S. A called “create by mental act,” is mostly a condensed version of “Dream.” The third video. “Magician,” features Ms. Tamblyn herself a proud voter since 2004. She tells the story of Farrah a magician who’ll be voting for the first measure next November. As Farrah performs her tricks around the Oval Office. Tamblyn notes that voting “isn’t magic it just feels like it.” At the end of the clips the voice of Christine Lahti directs viewers to where they can take their first steps toward voter registration. Ms. Lahti also wrote a in the Huffington affix Sunday imploring single women to voice their political opinions. W. V. W. V measure made headlines for its “” series where celebrity women suggestively spoke about their first time … voting. It’s a nice ad but I wish it didn’t cerebrate so much on Presidential Politics - there are other elections that are just as important like voting to fund the building of a road or municipal building voting for representatives to local government. PTA issues etc. Sure. National Elections are big issue items but local elections and votes on local issues may be more important to than these because they have a more immediate effect on us than the what is being debated nationally. Finding ways to get people to vote should not just be restricted to just which new Mayor. Senator or President we elect - there are more issues just as important and they should not be ignored. Many of my “sex and the city” single friends hate discussing politics. When it is brought up they look uncomfortable because they don’t experience much about the subject. They prefer talking about the latest restaurants and sample sales and their measure and efforts are spent on meeting “the one”. I don’t think Christine Lahti telling them to vote will alter much of a difference. A better idea is to have mixers involving politics. And I think topics that may get their attention are: (1) compete pay; (2) anti-retaliation measures for bringing sexual harassment suits; (3) maternity leave; and (4) pro-choice issues and discussion of women’s health issues desire mammograms and pap smears. What you say is true. Ned but turnout for all voters drops off in those elections. Presidential raises always have the highest turnout therefore presidential raises are the natural venue to encourage groups with the lowest turnout rates to start voting. Once in the booth hopefully they’ll return for other elections. All turnout efforts should lauded. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
