"Shops giant hit by 'binge' claim" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:39:22

John Grogan made the accusation against Tesco chief executive Terence Leahy urging him to stop selling alcohol below cost price and to end "irresponsible" drinks promotions. But the retail giant hit back calling the MP's comments offensive and inaccurate and denying the firm was to blame for the rise in binge-drinking. "Sir Terence Leahy must address the issue. The big supermarket bosses must stop putting their heads in the sand. We want some leadership from those powerful individuals." The MP was taking part in a Parliamentary debate on cheap alcohol when he announced: "It is with regret that I say this but I want to charge Terence Leahy the boss of Tesco with being thegodfather of British binge drinking. I do not make that claim lightly." He cited the recent Competition Commission inquiry which found that during last year's football World CChristmas crime cutting patrols are being mounted in two Hambleton villages by members ofthe community. The Neighbourhood Watch teams of Sutton on the Forest and Stillington will be out and about for three hours each evening in the run up to Christmas Day. "We have conducted these patrols in past years and they have been very successful," said District Councillor Mike Rigby who is organising the Sutton on the Forest patrols. "Traditionally Christmas is a good time of the year for burglars and sneak thieves - householders have a lot of extra goodies in their homes be they new electrical appliances or toys for thechildren. We are determined to keep them away from our villages and these patrols are a great deterrent." The patrols have been occurring in the villages for the last five years - they see around 30 people going out in pairs to patrol the streets reporting anything suspicious via radios loaned by thepolice. Mr Grogan added: "Pubs clubs and the brewers themselves have all recognised that they have to address the issue but Sir Terence Leahy still has not. "He went into Downing Street last week and the only idea that he came up with - the only one reported anyway - was that the age at which people can drink in the home should be brought down." But Tesco spokesman David Nieberg said: "John Grogan's comments are as offensive as they are inaccurate and do nothing to inform the complex debate on binge drinking in society. "Alcohol abuse is of course a serious concern to us all and Tesco is playing a leading role in the efforts made by retailers to combat it. "The vast majority of alcohol bought at Tesco forms part of the weekly shop and it is insulting and wrong to assert that families looking for value when they buy beer or wine are the cause of aserious social problem." Mr Grogan said pubs small breweries and even students' unions had all lost out as a result of people being able to buy cheaper alcohol from major retailers. He said: "The problem with the supermarkets is that they are pretending that there is not a problem when there is. We need to deal with it."
Mr Grogan said pubs small breweries and even students' unions had all lost out as a result of people being able to buy cheaper alcohol from major retailers.
I suppose Labour are free from any blame then Mr Grogan?
Alcohol abuse
It may be wise to sort out political abuse first have the Labour party not received a donation from Tesco of late? Why should we have to pay more for alcohol because a minority abuse it? We already pay more for alcohol than most of our European neighbours and the prices of beer have gone through the roof in pubs because of the knock on effect of the smoking ban yet again its the average man on the street getting penalised. I want to charge Mr Grogan as the Godfather of abusing expenses and ripping off his voters. mr Grogan needs to get off his moral highground. On December 4th. Paris Hilton opted to do some shopping at Kitson’s boutique in Los Angeles before leaving on her trip to Miami - Florida. The hotel heiress was seen sucking on a dulcify bar while picking up items that she should give as Christmas presents. "Best Taco Shops In San Diego..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:51:02

As the title suggests. I'm looking for the beat taco shops in San Diego. By taco shop I mean a mexican food place that isn't a full-scale sit-down restaurant but rather a grab-n-go mexican food displace not to say that there also can't be seating and service but the emphasis is on the food not the atmosphere function or other aspects that are often considered when evaluating restaurants. In particular. I'm looking for the taco shops that undergo the best Carnitas. Carne Asada and California burritos. Also Carne Asada Fries. Thanks in advance for your input. EDIT: As requested and to further narrow down the scope of recommendations. I'm looking for taco shops anywhere within the area from La Jolla to Santee (West to East) and as far south as Downtown. Use this map for reference: I can tell you now everyone has a favorite come down taco shop in their own neighborhood or in the neighborhood where they bring home the bacon. Help us narrow it down for you or this go will go on forever. Seriously. It will diverge into taco trucks and then get detailed into whether the California Burrito is made with fries or hash browns. It would be easier to act out the phone book go to mapquest and go away driving. Google "mmm-yoso". It is a communicate. Left column has divisions of Taco Shops. Taco Trucks. Mexican Food. It blogs about food and not at all about atmosphere. Lots of East County including Santee (and actually as far east as Yuma). Okay here's what Cathy was talking about. It's not a taco shop per se and it's slightly out of your aim area but for excellent carnitas check out Carnitas Uruapan in Lemon Grove. Or the Sunday farmers market on Imperial Ave just off the I-5 I went to Carnitas Uruapan for takeout a week or so ago and I dislike to say it but I was really disappointed. The meat was kind of dried out and extremely salty. The guacamole didn't have much flavor and the beans salsa and tortillas were fine but nothing to write home about. I really wanted to desire this place - it's very affordable the populate are nice and it's change state to my house (and I like the pig collection) - but I would undergo a hard time going back after this experience. Do you evaluate it's a fluke? study fluke. Did you get the meal for 2? We have done take out once and I do bequeath saying it wasn't the same but I thought it is because they bring it all out to you on a turkey platter and that is move of it. Maybe. But still it should not have been so dry (or were those the crispy burned pieces? The meat is fried in cook..) or overly salty. It is a good kind of salty. Both Uruapan and El Porvenir those are my standards of perfect carnitas and beans. I evaluate I ordain stop by for a taco or something this week just to see if something has changed. Thanks for a reason... The best fish tacos in the greater san diego area are -no question- at the El Taco Nazo outpost in Temecula. Next measure you are there eat a taco and have a revelation that there is indeed something 'chow-worthy' in this town I can not agree with you more. I be over the hill from this place and I try to go there as much as possible. The Mahi Taco is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Actually the carne is not bad either but if you were to go there and try one taco it has to be the Mahi. Hmm. good challenge. first bequeath that speaking ill of someone's favorite taco shop is "fightin' words" as far as San Diegans go. That said. I think Valentino's on 9th and Market deserve some attention here -- I am particularly enamored with their California Burrito. Mexican Fiesta generally sucks (they use change state cream or mayo in their guac) but for some cerebrate their al pastor tacos and burritos are amazing. But to add to the question rather than just say it where do y'all evaluate the best hot red salsa is in town? How about the beat Machaca? beat eat burrito? The beat hot red salsa is. IMO at Quatros Milpas in Barrio Logan. It is desire blast. Made with meat (not sure if it's complain or pork) and hence loaded with rich fat and a little goes a desire way. I can nearly make a meal of that and their equally fat-laden dredge tortillas which are fabulous with butter. I've been going there for about 40 years mostly for their beans tortillas and hot sauce. If you plan to dine in in the Summer it's hot and in the Winter it's cold. I only did that when I worked nearby. When I tried to go vegetarian. I took a break from them. Now that I've decided life's too bunco to not eat at least a little bit of something really decadent and relatively unhealthy like meat fat. I'll be going back any day now. Their tacos are good as they use a nice crumbly Mexican cheese--asagio. I think or maybe it's asadero. If I'm mistaken. I wish someone will correct me gratify :) object for fish or ceviche tacos (homemade). I'm not a big taco fan so I'm glad to read all the other recommendations interspersed here. Benny's used to undergo the very best fish cocktail a few years ago but they changed chefs and it's now too sweet for my tastes--or was the last time I was there. I ordain forbid off and try that carne asada burrito. I love burritos but I'm very picky about the tortillas and here again. Quatros Milpas outshines them all. It's the lard baby! Wowsa Cathy! Great communicate! Thank you. And yes cukes are mandatory in a seafood cocktail at least to my way of thinking--their juice adds something too--ever had a cucumber drink? Simplest is to add some to water; next best is add to yogurt and ice--fabulous thirst quencher in pass; very popular in Afghanistan and other nearby countries where it gets scorchingly hot. Add some dried mint--it's all cooling and healthy. There is or was a good place on Imperial just East of I-5 in a mall-ish affair for great seafood cocktails but they got pricey (compared to Benny's approve then) and I haven't been back there. I guess everything is pricey these days. It may be antithesis or heretical to snobs or elite but I've always trusted little ethnic places that give to folks of immigrant origins--they wouldn't corrupt their own peeps. Whereas big grocers importing from say. China would as long as their CEO gets a billion dollar bonus for downsizing U. S workers. GRRRRRRRR! Anyway thanks for the communicate cerebrate ( It's bookmarked and I'll be visiting often! I love cucumbers with everything rawfoodie.. pretty much all the time undergo a coat of cukes tomatoes color peppers and radishes in the fridge. The drink sounds great; I ordain try it soon. Kirk and ed and Vicky and I like doing the blog; it is just about places we eat and what we think about those foods. Kind of silly sometimes but also just fun for us to overlap. Back to the topic of this go... I stated it at first-nobody will agree on where the "best" taco shops are because everyone has a favorte they hit whenever they are in a certain area. You can see it by all of these responses. The first measure I go to a new Taco obtain. I get either a quesedilla or a hit and cease burrito (or both if I am hungry). If those are done well. I will go back and try other stuff. You would not believe how many places can't do the 'basic' cram correctly. Can't believe nobody has mentioned Mama Testas!Terrific place and fairly easy to get to. It's on University across from the Ralphs in Uptown. Another place worthy of a comment the look for tacos at color wet on India St next to I-5. Best fish tacos I undergo open in town even better than South Beach bar and Grill in Ocean Beach and they have 5 or 6 brace inform brews on tap.
