MORGANTOWN. W. Va – The No. 19/20 West Virginia University women’s basketball team plays host to St. Francis. Pa. in non-conference action Friday. Nov. 16 at 5:30 p m at the WVU Coliseum as part of a doubleheader with the WVU men. West Virginia (1-0) leads the all-time series with the Red Flash (1-1) by a 2-0 margin having most recently defeated St. Francis. Pa. last year 98-60. The Mountaineers won the first meeting 74-68 in 2005. Both previous contests were at the WVU Coliseum. The matchup with the Red Flash is the second of three-straight home games to the open the season for WVU. In the season-opener last Friday against Canisius senior guard LaQuita Owens notched 21 points while senior center Olayinka Sanni tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds in the 76-49 victory over the Golden Griffins. At halftime of the men’s contest against Arkansas-Monticello the women’s team will be honored with a banner-raising ceremony commemorating last year’s 21-11 NCAA tournament team. SWARTHMORE. Pa. — Visiting New York University swept the Swarthmore swim teams in the domiciliate opener for the Garnet Saturday afternoon. The Violets men (6-0) downed Swarthmore (1-3) 120-74 while the NYU women (8-0) picked up a 131-74 win over the Garnet women (3-1). Sophomores Anne Miller and Julia Wrobel picked up individual wins for the Garnet women while freshman Sterling Satterfield collected a win for the men. Miller dueled with NYU’s Kacey McCaffrey in the 1000 freestyle lowering her school-record time to 10:38.43. McCaffrey was just a hair better out-touching Miller to pick up the victory in a drop Pool-record measure of 10:38.10. Miller came back later in the meet to bring about a 1-2 Garnet end in the 200 dart. She posted a time of 2:12.77 for the win while classmate Casey Osborn was change state behind in second with a time of 2:13.78. Wrobel had two victories on Saturday winning the 100 freestyle with a measure of 56.56 and then teamed with Franny Zhang ’08. Chelsea Brett ’11 and Jennie Lewis ’08 to capture the 400 freestyle communicate in a time of 3:45.85. Satterfield clocked in at 2:15.68 to win the 200 swim for the Swarthmore men. The women and a handful of men who attended learned more about 15 of the area human service agencies that the United Way supports.
