"Pioneer-SpinOff SyncTV Tries A La Carte Online Channel ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 01:25:32

is a new affiliate spun off from electronics affiliate Pioneer and is says it is trying a slightly novel tactic: it is offering a la carte channels to subscribe to for online viewing. Not really. Sites such as JumpTV (TSE: JTV) have been offering international/ethnic channels for some time now as are others. The go around here is that SyncTV will furnish the shows not just as streaming but also for transfer. The place/function launches in private beta Monday. Subscription fees be from $2 to $4 per month per channel. Shows ordain also be offered for sale at $2 per episode. The service is also advertising supported. The affiliate says the function would offer “home-theater quality” videos that will include surround-sound capabilities and conceive of resolution at least comparable to DVDs and in some cases. HD. SyncTV said downloaded files are based on open-standards and ordain bring home the bacon on PCs and Macs. The function uses the Marlin DRM system. It doesn’t really undergo any mainstream channels as of yet except Showtime says. The company started as a communicate inside Pioneer but was spun off as its own affiliate in August. It can compete content on up to five devices in the home and up to 10 different portable devices (not on iPod)... no devices have yet been launched but the affiliate says that third-party devices ordain start to turn out in the first half of 2008. All in all sounds a bit too nuanced of a differentiation to work but ordain act to see the implementation before I can mention further. Some more.

"Merriam-Webster Visual Dictionary Online ? for when Wikis are just ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:10:56

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • We all know the problems Wikipedia had in the past over misinformation and their efforts to correct in their community-generated information. Now from Merriam-Webster a fairly well-respected source of information comes what the affiliate calls the. It reminds more of a great encyclopedia albeit limited to the amount of topics it covers more than just a dictionary. It is a great teaching source for those who just like learning new things or for those in some form of educational environment. My guess is the site ordain change state extremely popular and its popularity will embolden not only Merriam-Webster and its partner. QA International that creates the graphics to grow its topics but other encyclopedia companies as well ordain follow. Yes. I experience Britannica has a site but they charge $70 a year for unlimited find to their 32 volumes. Not a bad price but if there are enough potential advertisers that could very well dress to a free service. Wikipedia has the acquire of immediacy. This is what we now call being in real measure. Traditionally a publisher of encyclopedias uses scores of editors and takes years to combine changes. Nevertheless shouldn’t there be a premium placed on accuracy over immediacy? I’m not naĂŻve enough to accept everything I read even from a so-called expert but at the same measure. I think being well-informed requires us to believe those experts who take the trouble to change state informed to the nth degree in their specialized field. Posted by Ephraim Schwartz on November 19. 2007 08:20 AM And how do you know that the articles in a traditional encyclopedia are accurate? Because their written by experts? Peer reviewed? "Microsoft's Bach composes an attack on PS3's online services" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:36:55

Just as the console war was starting to settle. Microsoft has stirred things up again by blasting Sony’s online service in the. Speaking to the paper. Microsoft’s Robbie Bach president of the company’s entertainment and devices division did his beat to destroy the PS3’s reputation as an online forge by saying “Sony has done some things online but nothing that can be called a function”. Bach obviously hasn’t seen how easy it is to cerebrate a PS3 compared to a 360 or noticed the built in wi-fi and he clearly hasn’t played some of the best of PSN desire the recent Loco Roco Cocoreccho. He’s also obviously happy to ignore the fact that Sony’s service allows online multiplayer for remove while 360 owners have to pay. Additionally. Bach claimed "It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition”. While he is clearly confident of Microsoft’s lead the executive also sounds a little desperate and rather publicity hungry. As PSN gathers steam and gears up for the 2008 launch of PlayStation domiciliate could it be that the suits behind the 360 are starting to mind? I have the privelidge of owning both a 360 (my 3rd due to the ring of death) and a PS3. I have to say on all fronts including online Sony wins. Don'd get me wrong at the moment MS probably are slightly ahead in terms of games. Halo 3. Bioshock and GoW but thats not to say PS3 dosen't have some great software. Sonys console is not flawless but most issues are fixed in the updates MS has a huge problem with their faulty systems. Online PSN is remove. FREE!!! you only pay to transfer games. MS charge with each modify PSN improves and when domiciliate is released I don't really see MS standing back up. I see the PS3 having quite a long life span but the 360 like the Xbox to slowly die with some brilliant games but not enough inovation. I too own both of these consoles and can see where the previous poster is coming from. However he does be to stray from the point a little we're talking about online access here not reliability (If we were talking about that it would be worth noting that the 66% of xbox 360s being sold that don't end down right away be to a larger sales base than the ps3). As far as online find goes Xbox live is the winner in every field. It has the user base and Microsoft has already announced Xbox live is going to be free soon (for a gold membership). The be of new customers every month yo xbox be is far more than the projected amount sonys home ordain undergo. Then we move onto the games... Oh dear!! PS3.. what games? advance and go mediocre. Lair diar motorstorm has the lifespan of yoghurt in the sun. Whats to come? More half ass ports and disapointing exclusives? The only thing I was looking forward to was Drake's Fortune but I've heard from the hands on its buggy and poor. By the way as a align note. PS3 fanboys your format does not have the best graphics. My Conroe/8800 ultra with dell ultra sharp pc knocks the shit out of a ps3 coupled with a bravia. Don't argue with that statement please. I can compare I have both!!! Well given the life span of a console which is about 6 to 8 years comparing a 2 year old Xbox360 to a 1 year old PS3 is like to analyse a 20 year old with a 10 year old. It's just not fair. So people wait for a couple of month maybe you can see who is winning by the Xmas of 2008. Really nice way of putting it Golfin - I really conclude that is a good response to so much that has been said about the rivalry between the two consoles....

"NBCU And P&G Focus On Others' Ads For Online 'Pet Project'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-19 14:46:43

a site for pet owners run by NBC Universal () and Procter & Gamble could represent a new way for major media companies and marketers to do business on the web a. The site already features P&G products like IAM’s pet food and it ordain benefit from a tie-ins to a pet-focused channel on NBCU’s iVillage and a weekly spot on the network’s Today Show. But since both NBCU and P&G overlap the ad revenue from PetSide the place is not just a branded vehicle for P&G products. The two companies have opened the place up to general marketers such as Banc of America and LasikPlus Vision Centers. And it will also begin selling ad space on PetSide to P&G’s competition. By not defining PetSide strictly as a P&G venue the company believes it can draw a greater audience and ultimately give its own advertising on the site more force. Most pet sites don’t undergo particularly large be of visitors - PetSmart com had the most visitors in the pet category measure month reaching 2.48 million uniques in October according to Nielsen Online - but NBCU and P&G are undaunted. They believe PetSide by aggregating material from other sites - as come up as syndicating PetSide’s own videos and original circumscribe to others - ordain be able to draw audiences from the various pet-centric sites and related social nets already out there. And NBC aside from handling PetSide’s ad sales has used to the site as a jumping off inform to start a “pet ad network” for others desire WorldwideFido com and DogCentral com.
