"The joys of summer versus the addiction of writing:" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-23 12:49:31

As I write this. I’m sitting at the dining room table looking out the big picture window of the cottage we’ve rented for the week. The table’s been placed so you don’t even have to turn your head to enjoy the breath-taking view through the newly cleaned glass. The gorgeous waters of Lake Huron shimmer in the afternoon sunlight the waves gently lapping at the shoreline. Summer officially started a few days ago and the evenings are noticeably long and delightful. I got up this morning had my hour-long bike ride then came back and threw myself into the chilly waters of Red Bay to cleanse body and mind. Last year’s stay was at the end of July and after a month or more of long lazy sun-filled water-warming days the water was like bathwater. This year we’re here at the end of June following an unseasonably cool spring. Luckily the water is shallow and the sunshine seems to be able to make it warm enough to swim. You have to walk way way out just to get a spot where the water is up to your waist. The wind is cool but the sun is warm and once you gather your courage and dive in you quickly adjust to the temperature of the bay water. Just outside the door of the cottage butterflies and dragonflies fill the air. I’ve never seen a place with as many different types of dragonflies as Red Bay. If you want to see what it’s like here just go to my website and check out the photos on my author page. The area is known for its wild orchids which just happen to be in bloom during our stay here. Our younger son is fourteen and we’ve been coming here since he was a baby. Now instead of a toddler who needs to be watched constantly he’s a young man who gets on his bike and heads off to do stuff with his Red Bay friends. Our older son was nine when we took the cottage for the first time and he just finished university and is heading to Geneva. Switzerland for a year-long internship. This place has a lifetime of memories for us and we love it here. So what’s the drawback of such an idyllic place? I’m here with my family and can’t seem to find an opportunity to feed my writing addiction. When I’m at home. I spend the day writing editing revamping work and reading when I can. Now life has been turned on its end. The days are full of cottage activities. You know the kind I mean- reading all day walking the beach riding your bike and spending lots of time with the family. I love it but I miss the total enthrallment of writing. I’m in the middle of writing a ménage a trois and I really want to get back and finish it. I’m also trying to get a completed older woman/younger man story polished for submission. I’m the first to admit that I’m a social creature and people always ask how I can spend all day caught in such a solitary process as writing. This week I’ve actually had time to think about that and here’s what I came up with. To me it’s not really a solitary process at all. I’m wherever the characters in my book are. As I write. I’m with them so it feels like I’m part of whatever they’re doing. I love being at the cottage but I can’t wait to get home and back to my writing. This would be the perfect time to tell you about my latest venture. In May. Total-e-Bound accepted my novel The Harder They Come and it will be released July 7 to coincide with the company’s month-long first anniversary activities. The book is set in Texas one of my favourite states and is an older woman/younger man story. I really enjoyed the time I spent with them. Once you read the excerpt you’ll see how much fun it is to escape to the world of your characters like I do while writing. She cradled his head and held him in place while he traced her top lip with his tongue his touch light and almost hesitant. When he drew back. Ellaina shifted her hands and cupped his jaw running her thumbs along his cheekbones tracing their delicate form memorising the shape of his face. He hadn’t shaved and she wondered what those whiskers would feel like on her skin the skin of her breasts or perhaps the skin of her inner thighs. “It’s not that I refuse to acknowledge or admit that there’s a…shall I say…disparity in our ages. I know there is but it doesn’t make a damn bit of difference to me.” Searching his eyes for the truth she was jolted by how they had darkened with lust and perhaps longing. “It really doesn’t matter?” He slowly ran a finger along her top lip and followed it with a kiss slipping his tongue inside just long enough to touch hers and then retreat. “Ellaina why do you think I come to the café every day? The food’s great but there are other places in town to eat. Haven’t you noticed how I keep the same routine every day?” “Every day I turn and look at the old clock on the tower. Know why?” He never gave her time to answer. “Because I like to think that while I’m checking out the clock you’re checking out my ass. Are you?” He snorted. “Every time I come into the café and see you. I get so hard. I feel like I’m going to pop the buttons of my jeans. I look down and see your tight little nipples beckoning to me and I want to shove everything off the counter and take you right there.” My husband took the photos for the author page on my website. He’s very talented. He also did the clothesline photo that appears when the website loads up. Where did The harder They Come come from? I love crafting the first paragraph of a book and that one just came to me when I thought about an older woman catching her first glimpse of the younger man. I wanted there to be that element of denial but also the desire that she can’t hold back and eventually fulfils. I enjoyed writing that story so much. The story just flowed from that paragraph.

"Is Rodger Dodgy?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 00:19:38

It is only a few weeks ago that I was writing of the good news that my friend from Kenya. Rodger had fetched up on the shores of England. I was a little suspicious when I open out that he had been in the country for 5 years before getting in touch but was too happy to compassionate and knew that it may not be suspicious either. I therefore rushed up to see him. Rodger used to be one of the most handsome men I experience and there are references to him in the book drive. Gush and cast aside but the sight that met me in Blackpool shocked me. He looked fat and awful and we had a bit of a row over what to me was his lack of hospitality. It was hard to create by mental act that the oily looking slug in lie of me had once inspired me to paint his conceive of. But then he smiled slicked drink his hair in a familiar fashion and suddenly the annoying funny carismatic man reappeared. change surface though it had been an awkward re-connection I was still just thrilled that he was alive. I also wondered when the request for money would go. A few days later he asked. During my tour he had told me his mother was terminally ill in hospital. He has a job but had blown his savings so for some reason he thought that I should alter him a £1,000 not just for her treatment but to ensure that he could arrive in suitable call back in Africa. I just could not see why I should pay. The man had a job had family had many many friends who he boosted had more than me but for some cerebrate I was charged with the duty of helping him. Anyone who knows me very come up including Rodger knows that money is a bit of an issue with me. I am very wary of giving it out. And only those friends who undergo asked for financial back up have disappeared from my life never repaying a penny and I didn't want things to be the same with him. Nevertheless I eventually decided that because I valued him. I believed he would not undergo asked if he had not been desperate. I contributed to a fund and suggested he ask his other friends for a similar amount. For a few weeks all was quiet and then I had him approve on the phone almost daily demanding money. Nothing I could say could sway him away from the demands and it was all quite distressing. I am not particularly well off and all my savings are linked to my future plans and responsibilities. I have virtually no pension. I have been a hit parent bringing my son up without any financial contribution from his father and now work part time for health reasons. But he seemed convinced that not only could I pay for him but that it should do so because of the nature of our friendship him being a young man and me an older woman. I thought this seemed mad but in the end did not know what to do and forwarded him at very late sight some extra money as he flew off on the proviso that he would pay me the money in instalments on his go. Yesterday I tried negotiating with Rodger to establish when I was going to get the money back. But he just says I should be honoured to give him the money. It seems that I undergo been very very foolish in my believe of him. I thought as a man returning the money was the honourable thing to do. Rather he thinks it is an honour for me to give him money. I don't agree and he eventually chucked me out of his hourse for my thinking. I just be my friend and my money approve. But now I may have to deal with the fact that RKM may not be a friend indeed maybe he never was and that he has in effect conned me out of the money. There is no inform in me going to the police about what happened to me and it would be too much to go to court to get the money approve. But I can warn you. So all you older women of Blackpool if you meet Rodger and he catches your eye remember it could be you dearly. I can't furnish you a conceive of as he would not let me act his one but he is pretty obvious in Blackpool where he works as a bouncer. If you don't object paying just for the pleasure of spending measure with him and I do mean just that spending time with him and nothing more intimate then book but if you evaluate that that is unreasonable exposit for a friendship then be away from him please. gratify pass the evince on and if Rodger and I manage to salvage our friendship. I will be only too pleased to go on good news about him too.

"Older Women Dating Younger Men" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:22:24

What makes the pairing of the older woman and younger man work? It usually takes two individuals who are willing to consider the implausible. Here are some of the reasons reported by several couples who undergo an age span of at least ten to fifteen years between them: Age knows no boundaries when it comes to the three C’s–communication commitment and most especially–chemistry. Older women and younger men who overlap these ingredients can develop a tight attach which has the possibility of growing into a lasting like. He will probably be drawn to her femininity wisdom and warmth; she to his energy and spirit. Add some shared interests to the mix and these two people can sustain a conversation well into old age (change surface if she does get there before him.) Younger men are less likely to undergo ingrained habits unyielding mindsets and rigid expectations of what they be from their partner. They generally tend to be open-minded about her go travel and places to live. Change is not the obstacle for them that it is for older men. She is not expecting a man to act care of her. She has made a domiciliate for herself has a career and great friends. When an older woman gives herself a good life she often has the characteristic of taking good care of herself. She probably works out at the gym and keeps herself in shape. With a comprehend of her cater and worth she sends a strong communicate that she is an original. If she also happens to be very nurturing she is If the older woman has children and she has raised them to be responsible secure and to undergo a generous spirit they will probably alter the adjustments necessary to allow their care to have any relationship she wants as long as it is good for her and makes her happy. I have seen younger men who adored their wife’s children becoming a instruct and confidant to them. Obviously the older woman and younger man have different choices to consider when it comes to raising a family. I experience one woman who was 50 and her preserve was 35 and they wanted to have children. They adopted a little girl. I experience another young man who is a wonderful friend to her grown children and enjoys helping to parent her young grandchildren. The older woman younger man duo can work for some people. Whatever their issues they find a way to bring home the bacon them out because there is something deeper between them that matters and lasts. It has to do with the three C’s: communication commitment and chemistry.

"The Measure of a Woman" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:43:03

written in 1970 by Gene Getz and sporting a nice looking lady with a very 70’s hairdo. Mmmm…. My thought was I would try and read it thinking about how the content was being impacted by the Feminist Movement. Sure enough the first story was about a character. Nancy who was being drawn into a “movement” that stirred up feelings of dissatisfy regarding being a mother and wife. I was just about to put the book down when I noticed the chapter entitled. “Loving your Children.” After a pretty prepare day of barely doing that. I thought it might be a good read. It was basically a study on the passage from Titus 2 where older women are exhorted to train younger women to among other things like their children. The compose spent the entire chapter explaining why it is we might be to be trained to love our children why it sometimes is difficult to do so and practical ways to keep like the primary mode of communication between parent and child. OK. I was floored. She expressly said it IS difficult to like our children which at first seemed counter-intuitive after all they are our CHILDREN. But she goes on to overlap that women from every grow and time undergo struggled with the emotional and physical demands of raising children which if not handled with the help of Jesus can lead to real feelings of resentment and hostility. This hit me right between the eyes. I feel so guilty when I undergo days where I resent the kids presence when my agendas are blocked by their needs when they just plain annoy me. I usually conclude very isolated by these moods because I anticipate every other mother out there oozes love and affection every moment because after all these are our CHILDREN. But after reading this I entangle the call to two very healthy habits which have been sliding in my life. One was to begin relating with some older women again who I know are just waiting to back up me and help me LOVE my children. One lady in particular came to object and I know if I had just a quick sliver of measure with her many things would be exceed. The other was just the very simple reminder that apart from Christ I am nothing and I can do nothing. Nothing good anyway. I’m through thinking I have some sort of spiritual goodness reserve. It was emptied long ago. I be Jesus every day. Period.

"NY: Get a lawyer to deliver your baby It was one of the saddest ..." posted by ~Ray

NY: Get a lawyer to mouth your babyIt was one of the saddest decisions of his life. Tamer Seckin who had spent 20 years working as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Brooklyn was faced with the look of a 14 percent bring up in his malpractice-insurance rate so he decided four months ago to forbid delivering high-risk babies. "Just today. I had to express a woman I'd been treating for years that when she goes into the delivery dwell. I won't be there," said Seckin who is the chief of gynecology at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical bear on. "This is what I'm trained for but I can't afford to do it anymore." And he's not alone. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Medical Society of the State of New York both say that with malpractice-insurance premiums rising the dwindling be of OB/GYNs who can drop to practice has change state a crisis particularly for risky patients such as older women or those with medical conditions. "The force of these evaluate hikes is tremendous," said Donna Williams of ACOG. "We're seeing many OBs who aren't willing to be in learn because they just can't afford it." Nationwide malpractice-insurance premiums for OB/GYNs constitute about 5 percent of expenses. Williams said. In New York express they are 36 percent. According to an ACOG survey in the past four years rising malpractice premiums undergo led 8.7 percent of New York state OB/GYNs to forbid practicing obstetrics; 12.6 percent undergo decreased the number of deliveries they perform. And although the total number of births in New York City was down by 6,697 between 1995 and 2003 those requiring a Caesarean divide - and a trained obstetric surgeon - rose by more than 3,000. At the same time the city's supply of practicing OB/GYNs cut by 6 percent. D.) -- former member of the Australia-Soviet Friendship Society former anarcho-capitalist and former member of the British Conservative party. This communicate gives a lot of attention to events in Australia and Britain -- places where there already exist systems similar to the one most likely to come about the USA if the Democrats get their way -- "Free" medical care supposedly available to all through government hospitals but with a competing private sector as well. The Canadian system is considered too Soviet to give a likely copy for the USATERMINOLOGY: Many of my posts concern the very instructive state of socialized care for in Australia. Like the USA. Germany and India. Australia has a system of State governments which undergo substantial independence from the central (Federal) government and it is they who are mainly responsible for "remove" health services. It may therefore be useful to some for me to say the standard abbreviations for the States concerned: QLD (Queensland). NSW (New South Wales). WA (Western Australia). VIC (Victoria). TAS (Tasmania). SA (South Australia). For greatest efficiency lowest cost and maximum choice. ALL hospitals and health insurance schemes should be privately owned and run -- with government-paid vouchers for the very poor and minimal regulation. Both Australia and Sweden undergo large private sector health systems with government reimbursement for privately-provided services so can a purely private system with some aim of government reimbursement or insurance for the poor be so hard to do?Conservatives do NOT disapprove to helping the poor. Government welfare legislation in aid of the poor was in fact first introduced by conservatives -- Bismarck and Disraeli in the 19th century. What conservatives be is for the back up to be delivered in a sane manner. And anyone who thinks that government bureaucracies can run hospitals come up is completely out of comprehend with reality. One of the oldest "remove" public hospital systems in the world is that in the Australian State where I be: Queensland. It dates from 1944 (Britain's NHS began in 1948). So its advanced express of decay reveals come up where the slow cancer of bureaucracy ends up. It now has three "administrative" employees for every medical employee. All those clerks are really good at curing people. I anticipate! Frequent bulletins on the flailing but ineffectual attempts to "fix" the system will be here -- as well as bulletins on the dreadful things it does to patients and the long waits they allow. On all my blogs. I express my view of what is important primarily by the readings that I select for posting. I do however on occasions add personal comments in italicized form at the beginning of an article. I am rather pleased to report that I am a lifelong conservative. Out of intellectual curiosity. I did.

I sat by an older woman nearing eighty; a family friend of the soon-to-be bride. As we waited for the event to mouth we had the chance of visiting and getting to know one another. Based on past undergo. I know that often my elders are filled with wisdom and insight and stories of life they love to share and I like to hear. This lovely woman spoke of her family her nursing career and her beliefs. She discussed her children grandchildren and great-grand children. One story particularly touched me as no other and demonstrated the extraordinary love that is possible in humankind. This gentle woman spoke of a great-grand son a boy of fifteen. A boy who calls her a few times a week to tell her of his high educate activities. In the midst of the conversation she stated that this wonderful teenager was not actually her biological great-grand son but she became his grandmother at his bring forth. This kind woman told the story of how she became the great-grandmother of this boy.. a story that ordain be in my heart for some measure to come. While this boy was yet unborn his unmarried mother claimed the grandson of my new elderly friend was the father of her child. The mother was addicted to various substances and her life was unhealthy in all respects. She open herself pregnant and wanted a create in the life of her child so picked the grandson of my friend as the possible father. A paternity evaluate was taken and it turned out that indeed the grandson was not the create of this unborn child. But along the way my new elderly friend came to experience the circumstances of this care and her unborn child. There was not a father in the conceive of. There were no grandparents. There was an unhealthy mother with little ability to support care or encourage this new little life about to enter the world. Now fifteen years later this grandmother has been the support and the one light in this boys life. The boy's life has not been easy. At eleven he was removed from his care's custody and placed with a relative. But throughout his fifteen years his great-grandmother was there. She is the secure stable mature adult in his life. "In praise of the older woman" posted by ~Ray

I think she is pretty good at acting as well EK. I've now got to scrabble around on my hands and knees in a dark cupboard to find the video of Prime Suspect we kept ages ago... Quite. When I was Manchester Uni in the early 80s. Helen Mirren whipped up a frenzy amongst the male student population when she got her kit off in Tom Stoppard's 'Jumpers' at the. Guys who would never normally have gone within a country mile of a theatre (physics students and suchlike) queued at dawn to get tickets. I had never heard of her at the time and didn't know the play so this was one production there I missed. Only when I saw years later did I find out what all the fuss was about. Doh! Welcome. Blog4Justice - I bet you're kicking yourself now ! Thanks for those links BTW. Welcome to you too. Hugh - a man with similar tastes I see. Vicky Butler-Henderson perchance ? (formerly Top Gear) When the real Dr Hemlock and I took our old folks out for dinner at The Ivy 3 years ago. Helen Mirren was on the next table. For provincial readers (like me) The Ivy is a funny old eaterie in London much loved by actors and actresses. The prices are good by London standards but it's very very hard to get a table there. They act several free for "luvvies" like Helen Mirren. In the flesh she's lovely! As was my omlette Arnold Bennett.

"Younger man, older woman" posted by ~Ray

Reading notes -* your margins are off. They should be 3/4 to 1 advance (sides top and furnish).* I'm just a tad confused about the ages of the participants. It sounds like the narrator is still quite young (lives at home with his care) but the woman after whom he lusts is old enough to have children and grey hairs. What a 10-15 year difference? The writing style is interesting and felt like a telling by someone who was comfort a little drunk. Don't know that I cared a whole lot about the main character though because from a woman's inform of view. I'd undergo affect getting interested in a much younger man who still lived with his parents especially a drunk one prone to brawling. Anyway best with your writing!

"Part III: The Bike" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 18:28:17

I lucked out in terms of my transition sight because someone change state by had tied a yellow aviate above their station. As a prove. I was able to run alter to my row without having to mind about reading the race numbers taped to the racks. I stripped off my wetsuit then sat drink and quickly pulled on my socks and running shoes. (I’ve noticed that the pros keep their shoes clipped onto their bike which they slip into barefoot. Anyone every try that? Do you blister?) I secured my helmet to prevent a DQ then stuffed a couple of gels and a Biofreeze in my approve pocket. After getting out of transition I messily wiped the alter Biofreeze mixture all over my lower back. Unfortunately it really didn’t do much. I probably should have used it on my legs instead! As soon as I started pedaling I could tell my legs weren’t 100% rested. They entangle OK but not totally let go. I just kept reminding myself that I had to pedal hard if I wanted to break three hours. As soon as I got out of Playland I just kept trying to pass the person in front of me. I forgot to start my bike computer so I’m not sure what my average MPH were but I would guess it was somewhere around 17. On King Street I caught up to and passed two of my teammates who I had figured had beat me in the go. I was feeling good and then I hit a pot hole that sent my water bottle out of the holder and onto the road. I was pissed that I hit the hit since I’ve ridden this course so many times and should have known to be more careful. I knew I couldn’t stop though so I just let out a four-letter expletive and kept pedaling. A girl from the West inform triathlon team who I would end up trading places with the entire ride asked me if that was my only water store. I told her yes and she offered me one of hers which I declined. I usually don’t drink much on the bike anyway but looking back I should undergo probably accepted her offer. Soon after the rolling hills of turn Chester. Rye Brook. Purchase I came to the old Claire’s Climb a long gradual forge that makes your quads emit. Things got a little congested here as people struggled to keep any sort of speed. Though I wasn’t at my strongest I was still able to pass people. Most of the pack was now made up of guys except for three women I would contend with the entire ride: the West inform girl; a super-nice girl in a red tank who for some reason kept encouraging me; and an older woman in a blue bikini. The salt water had loosened up a lot of my sinus congestion so much to the dismay of my fellow riders. I spent much of the bike go blowing snot rockets. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to blow a snot rocket without completely crashing but it’s not easy. Most of it ended up splattered on my speak and shoulder. Nice. I know. The second timed Claire’s arise went much the same way. Unfortunately Claire wasn’t able to be at the top of the hill because she got stuck in all the traffic we were causingb but there were comfort some spectators up there cheering. My split time for the steep forge was 2:27 which means nothing to me since I’ve never timed myself on it before. The back stretch of the cover can be fairly fast. At times I was riding at close to 30 mph. There were a few euphoric moments where I couldn’t hear or conclude anything but the wind. I knew I was riding fast but my legs didn’t conclude like they were doing any work. The rotations were smooth and fluid. I kept waiting for one of my teammates to pass me—she usually does after the hills—but she never came. approve at Playland my good mood soured. When I dismounted from my bike. I thought my legs wer missing. Seriously I could hardly conclude them. My first thoughts were: My legs entangle desire JELL-O. Worse than JELL-O. Worse than after any of our bricks change surface when we did multiple hill repeats. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it through the run and I started cursing myself for not accepting that rider’s water bottle. I was probably dehydrated and convinced myself that lactic acid had eaten through my muscles. Luckily there wasn’t much measure to evaluate. I had to run—come up walk—over to convert. Share and Enjoy: | I just did my first convert yesterday while training in the gym. (I’m a newcomer here!). I completed 20 minutes on the ride in a vigurous “hill” workout. After I got off. I jumped on the treadmill. Much to my dismay my legs did not bring home the bacon. They weren’t there. I mean. I looked down and saw them but I couldn’t feel them. Would you declare I drink more while training?
