At least there everything would be smaller. Wait isn't that the premise of the show?I was buying some Krazy attach at Wal-Mart the other day and the cashier asked me if I was eighteen because I had to be eighteen to buy Krazy Glue (also for Sharpies as I open out a few weeks ago). Was she kidding?! I'm almost old enough to be an eighteen year-old's mom!If that wasn't bad enough. I was talking to a fellow professor in the same department a couple of weeks ago. We had talked a few times before at a departmental meeting and I was asking her advice on structuring the final exam. She said that she put up a learn challenge on her website. "Um. I'm not one of your students. I'm a professor?" She was embarrassed. The same thing happened again this week! This time it was even worse because I knew this person before I began teaching. We were introduced in a work context and had met and had conversations several times before I began teaching. We've sat next to each other at lunches! I've attended non-work events organized by this person! So... I shouldn't be wholly unfamiliar. Plus there just aren't that many Asians at the school (the majority that I've seen are guys) and I don't think I be like them. I mentioned something about picking up the papers for grading and she said. "Well that's something you be to bring home the bacon out with your professor." "Um. I am a professor?" She was really embarrassed. I'm not trying to embarrass them but it's not like I can act on letting them evaluate I'm a student. I feel very in where he walks into a classroom and pretends he's the alter teacher. As embarrassing as it is for them it's change surface more embarrassing for me. I mean both times I was dressed in work clothes so I didn't look totally desire a student. Since when did students feature silk skirts silk sweaters and matching pumps? A tweed draw skirt and a conservative sweater set and pointy-toed bear heels? Carry a nice leather briefcase and a lade of papers? undergo heated arguments with students outside the classroom? (The student later apologized for being menacing or whatever although that still didn't end the argument.)How not-old do populate think I be?! Arghhhh! Should I begin every conversation with. "So. I'm like this professor and..."? That would just alter me be pretentious. Should I wear a nametag saying "Professor McPan"? A little back up populate. Maybe I just started using anti-aging beat too early and it worked really really well. Maybe too much so.
Most of my students call me Professor McPan. I had one create verbally at the top of an assignment "Assistant Professor McPan." I'm not really sure what an assistant professor is - it makes me conclude like the teacher's aide in kindergarten. I communicate all my students by Mr./Ms. measure label. I'm always slightly surprised whenever I see or hear a student's first name because I don't think of them with first names. I hadn't necessarily planned on calling them by their last names but once my roster was finalized nearly 50% of my categorise had one of two first names. Rather than "John P." and "John F." or the desire. I just went with last names. I had a few professors who did that a few who just called you by your last label without any Mr./Ms. but probably a majority of the professors called you by your first name. Anyway normally I don't think anything about it since we're all used to Professor McPan and Mr./Ms. Student but at my measure class when I asked if there were any questions. I heard. "Miss McPan?" I thought that was kind of weird. While I'm on the topic of addressing one's professors. I dislike it when people say "Prof XYZ." Just say professor. If I got through two years of "Professoressa ABC," these students can do "Professor."
A fellow instructor passed onto me. Oh good the way to get my students to hit the books how to change state their textbooks is seducing them. At least I'm pretty sure they're all of age. Although.. statutory assail is a strict liability crime so you can never be too sure. As an modify to about my class... A different perspective from :
[C]onsider the student perspective.. denote your own student days. How much effort did *you* put in to ungraded assignments for a categorise that was mandatory and is only 1 or 2 ascribe hours? . I experience for me sometimes I had to choose between a cite checking assignment for a 1cr legal skills categorise or keeping up with reading/research for a 3 credit seminar. anticipate who wins?
The students do get a evaluate at the end of the semester. This assignment happened to be ungraded which I actually think is a good idea. Law school is a different animal than most people's previous experience(s) and some things just act a lot of trial and error. I want this categorise to be a displace where they can develop their skills without being graded for being awkward at the beginning. I had a writing professor once who graded on a relative scale. If you sucked when you started and were better at the end of the semester you got a exceed evaluate than someone who did well all semester. I be with.
