"malls. eww." posted by ~Ray

i've always hated malls since i went from a teenager to a university student i started to transition from loving malls to hating them and probably only because as a teen i just didn't know any better - i hadn't been exposed to as much shopping in non-mall-like locations. what's worse is that they keep on building more and more monstrosities i mean there are locations here there are stores next to other stores surrounding a common parking lot i tolerate those but to me those are almost like pseudo malls. but the malls encased completely by walls are the worse. and what makes it extremely horrible around this time of year is shopping in malls during the holiday rush. i went there this morning so we could take chaeli to get her photo with santa and while we were there i figured we'd just tie-in a couple of last minute items we needed to buy one for chaeli's secret santa exchange and another was to exchange the gift we got for my father-in-law oh yes.. and also to buy the 'hungry hungry hippos' game for chaeli from my aunt and uncle my aunt's pretty much decided NOT to bother shopping this year so as a favour i'm buying what she needs for her fortunately except for this one particular item everything else was bought from either amazon ca or chapters ca. in fact most of my gifts this year were also purchased online there were only a few i was unable to do just that. oh god the people. THE PEOPLE! there's just too many people getting in my way at malls and they don't have the common courtesy anymore.. not like they use to holding doors open for people is now assumed rather then appreciated the thank-you's are coming less and less. the excuse me's are also becoming an oddity. how i loathe the people at such malls even more. i am in a foul mood this is what malls do to me. malls.. eww. well at least the photo came out pretty good... malls Bleh.. and Holiday shoppers have a way of sucking all the fun and holiday spirit right out of you dont they? But I'd say the picture is worth it! it is too cute. "Direct Patrols Target Crime At Malls" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 01:48:01

Tulsa police have direct patrols all along the 71st Street corridor especially around Woodland Hills Mall. Police don't want to give us an exact number of officers who will be patrolling but say they ordain mainly be around the mall circling the parking lot and looking for anything suspicious. Talk about bad timing. The minute Parker Grindstaff crouches down to analyse out a car. head Steve Odom pulled up in a squad car. "Do you undergo ID on you?""Yes sir. I was just checking out his suspension. You know I am not doing anything wrong." head Odom confirms he's telling the truth but even Parker admits crouching down and checking out someone else's car sure does look suspicious. "As we pull around you're on the ground and it's hard to tell are you hiding?" "No I didn't see you guys." This weekend up until Christmas guard will be all over Woodland Hills mall focusing on violent crime. "We see populate that are loitering walking around sitting in cars clearly not waiting for someone to come out," Odom says. Officers predict this pass toughen at least ten-thousand populate ordain go to the mall every day making it a rich target for thieves at any hour. "This year we really want to put a communicate out to the bad guys that you have officers out in the area," Odom says. "Don't come into the area because if you do chances are you'll get caught." And like Parker learned the hard way if someone acts just a little bit suspicious he most likely will end up approach to approach with a guard command. The mall has also hired its own security. Deputies ordain be walking around inside and outside some on horseback. "Another Reason for Teenagers to Hang Out in Malls" posted by ~Ray

Posted by on Nov. 28. 2007 at 2:34 pm I hate malls. I can never successfully buy anything in a mall because the whole time I’m so distracted by thinking about how much I hate malls. I dislike the chains. I hate the crowds. I hate the comprehend of the Body Shop. I hate the stuffy air. But I love boutique shopping (even if I can’t afford anything). I would much rather walk around outside be helped by nice salespeople and be at original clothing. The other day I stopped by one of my favorite stores. A write on the door said that no teenagers were permitted unless accompanied by an adult. This is shocking. Where I come from teenagers are the backbone of the sell industry. "Seattle's Malls: Northgate Mall & Crossroads Mall" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:51:03

Something great arrived in the email today a very timely given the discussion on Park Lane redevelopment. A roundup of Seattle-area malls bringing up some I left out. is an old mall situated in Bellevue a booming city just across Lake Washington from Seattle. A truly suburban affair. Crossroads is an unassuming sight from the outside and might be easy to pass over. Once inside however you are treated to a bustling scene. Crossroads has many strengths: its International food act drawing on all the different cultures which have located in the Seattle area. Its stage and regular live music community theater and improv performances. A branch of the library. A supermarket. This is a mall make no mistake: It has a drive-through Starbucks a Bed Bath & Beyond. Michaels craft hold on. Circuit City. But inside the walls of Crossroads is a comprehend of community not open replicated in many other malls. the main mall in the story is the country's oldest mall. Currently move of it is just about done with a study overhaul which has added a clump of new stores. The district around Northgate is going through some interesting changes densing up and becoming more urban. Just across the street from Northgate is a multi-story complex featuring a Target. beat Buy and GI Joe's Sports. It is deviod of "softer" community and cultural features however. The author argues that a more successful Northgate expansion would undergo included cues from Crossroads. This is a lot of what I mean when I call for "districts not malls". In the Park Lane plan the soft attractions are the hotel the fountains and the incorporation of existing neighborhood elements into the corridors - that "reaching out" come to close in and grow the neighborhood and strengthen its corridors. Still. Park Lane as it was could undergo become a Crossroads in the alter hands. At the end of the day a mall like everything else in the property development world is there to alter money for its investors. When these things truly shine is when they can do it looking good and serving as model assets for the community.

"Thank the museums for the malls" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:31:10

On Dec. 1. Antonios San Maron participated in a routine Saturday afternoon activity — he drove to the Sunrise Mall with his parents wife and three kids and walked around.“We come every pass. We come to get a snack and go around,” he said. San Maron. 27 didn’t have anything specific to buy. After walking around he sat with his father in the food act silently eating with the din of hundreds of shoppers swirling around them. San Maron has never been to the Brownsville Museum of book Art or the Historical Brownsville Museum. He’s taken his children to the Gladys Porter Zoo a bring together of times and says he might go again but has no plans of attending the museums. For advocates of these cultural institutions getting local residents into their doors is a challenge they face daily. But for city officials like those at the Brownsville Economic Development Council keeping these institutions operational with tax dollars is worth the depreciate despite the lack of attendance as it helps them to lure investors to the city. Local residents and tourists from as far as Monterrey pack the mall and other Brownsville stores every pass and most weekdays. In October the new Kohl’s hold on had its largest opening in the company’s history. While the city has added more than 40,000 residents since 2000 and continues to displace visitors attendance at the Historic Brownsville Museum and the Gladys carry Zoo has remained flat. The same number of populate go each year but it’s a declining percentage of the population. The city regularly contributes funds to local institutions to boost the area’s quality of life. The BEDC says companies looking to open a new branch are attracted by such amenities because they be a city’s commitment to the well-being of its people. Local government continues to invest more money each year into many of its longstanding cultural institutions with the Gladys Porter Zoo and Brownsville Museum of Fine Art receiving special funding in the past few years. This year the zoo will acquire a be of $515,000 from the city according to spokeswoman Cynthia Garza Galvan. $215,000 more than it usually receives. She says the additional funds were allocated to maintain and update the zoo in hopes it ordain eventually becoming self-sustaining. Annual attendance at the zoo has remained relatively static in the past five years with a slight drop of about 10,000 between 2002 and 2006. So far this year the zoo has welcomed 327,730 visitors. Numbers for the Historic Brownsville Museum have remained relatively steady as come up with an change magnitude in annual attendance of 200 since 2000 but a decrease of 400 populate from 2004 to 2006. Meanwhile. Brownsville has become the 24th fastest growing city in the United States according to the count Bureau. For a store like Kohl’s these numbers are the primary reason the store came to town.“Kohl’s looks for communities with high concentrations of families with children,” company spokeswoman Elizabeth DeLuca wrote in an emailed statement. “When it makes sense. Kohl’s builds stores in new communities come communities we already serve.”Although Brownsville itself is not a “new community,” it has added a population two-thirds the coat of Harlingen in the past seven years alone. SELLING BROWNSVILLEGilberto Salinas director of communications and marketing at BEDC says that much of his job revolves around using quality of life institutions desire the museums and zoo to attract corporations and retailers to open up branches in Brownsville.“Museums help us show executives that Brownsville does care for the arts. If a community is paying attention to its museums they’re paying attention to the quality of life of their people.”The city is continuing to increase funds to local cultural institutions — including its 2001 pledge of $1.4 million to fund half of the projected be of building the Brownsville Museum of book Arts on Seventh Street. The new building is more than three times the coat of its old location on Neal Street behind the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. Since it opened 13 months ago the MFA has used its new location and increased funding to create expanded lecture and workshop offerings and bring in high attendance figures.“Not everyone is going to be interested in every topic so we do programming on a wide range,” said George Farish who is on the museum’s come in of directors. The act is an example of an institutional success. According to Farish the past year’s attendance alone has likely been greater than the last nine years combined. Much of this is due to the investment the city has made in the new incarnation of the museum. From 2001 to 2006 the museum had between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors per year. So far this year Farish estimates the museum has had 15,000 visitors. Farish says that change surface so this attendance comes at a large cost to local government and requires plenty of grant money. Only a small percentage of the museum’s income comes from its visitors. He says this is standard for an institution of its type.“If you be at a pie chart for almost any museum only a small sliver would come from tickets,” he said. At the Gladys carry Zoo. Galvan says she hopes the extra money allocated by the city which will be used to act maintenance update facilities and expand the gift obtain will bring in more visitors. Galvan added that because many of the zoo’s attractions are outdoors the annual figures often be on the defy.“A bring together of years ago we had a beautiful January and people just came to the zoo,” she said. “This year it just rained and rained and no one wants to go to the zoo in the come down.” The January attendance for 2006 was 18,746 compared with 11,280 in 2007.‘COMFORT ZONE’Salinas says that ultimately for the BEDC museums and other cultural institutions are not as significant a selling point as the cheap cost of labor or the low cost of living — fifth lowest in the U. S. — which are found in Brownsville. He says the most difficult hurdle the BEDC faces in selling a potential investor on Brownsville is the low education level of the workforce.“High-tech firms won’t give you the time of day,” Salinas said. “I don’t think that BISD is doing a bad job. I evaluate that parents don’t follow through with their children’s education.”For Salinas much of the low attendance of local institutions desire museums is cultural. In his own life it took moving away to Austin for college to discover museum-going as an activity and consequently change state interested in visiting Brownsville museums. Now he is diligent about bringing his own children as part of their education.“Every night my wife and I sit with our kids and alter sure they’re doing their homework and that they understand everything,” he said. His own parents emigrated to the U. S from Mexico.“When I was growing up it wasn’t expected of me to go to college. I was expected to graduate from high school but if I hadn’t I evaluate it would have been good enough for my parents that I at least went to educate in the U. S.”Farish says that it is this kind of attitude toward education that prevents those who might apply and benefit from the varied offerings of local institutions from attending.“The majority of people in Brownsville undergo probably never been to a museum in their life,” he said. “There’s an intimidation calculate.”While Salinas finds education the biggest obstacle in his bring home the bacon of selling Brownsville for MFA director Carol DeMoss the hardest part is convincing those.

"Long Island Malls Targeted for Terror Attack? - Netlore Archive" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 19:00:32

A couple of weeks ago someone was seen taking photos of my ambulancecompany in Bay Shore. This same person was seen outside transfer Ambulance in Islipdoing the same. The police were notified and the person was apprehended outside Southside hospital again taking photos. He is a man of lay Eastern descent and is being held forinvestigation. It seems that he was gathering information about our responsecapabilities in a crowd casualty contend. The NY handle Office of the FBI held a meeting at Bay Shore blast Department for officials from the local PD. EMS and FD's. They have information from this man and from their own intelligencethat a mass attack is planned for Long Island. On color Friday (November 26) 4 Long Island Malls are supposed to behit simultaneously with chemical weapons. This would be the first measure a chemical weapon is used in the UnitedStates. Forces from NYC and Washington DC would be diverted to aid here on LongIsland leaving these areas vulnerable. A second attack would take displace in these areas. Ever since 9/11 EMS has undergone extensive training on howto deal with a terrorist attack and to think it could really come about hereis terrifying. There is also concern about car bombings as a large number of vehicleshave gone missing in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Ambulances go's,commercial vans and airport limos have beenreported stolen. These vehicles be perfectly innocent driving through our neighborhoodsand no one would think twice about seeing them. This is not an internet scam. The officers at my department were at this meeting and I saw theminutes myself. I evaluate it's pretty serious if the FBI made an appearance to share whatthey know. I'm not sure why this isn't being released to the public. I can only anticipate that if this got out no one would shop and it wouldbe devastating to our economy. I do not want to move panic only information. Take from this what you ordain but I needed to let you all know. I like you all and I felt I needed to share this with you. I experience it's hard to accept. I can't accept that an Al Qaeda operative was only a few blocks frommy domiciliate. Comments: Whether it's the prove of discuss fearmongering or a simple misunderstanding I do not experience but I can say based on by Long Island guard and ambulance officials not to mention the FBI that the above warning is false. Authorities say they are not aware of any terrorist plot to wage chemical attacks on local malls or car bombings in Nassau and Suffolk counties on "color Friday," November 26 generally regarded as the busiest shopping day of the year. According to Don Einsfeld of transfer Ambulance in Islip. New YOrk the misinformation appears to have been inspired by printed materials used two months ago in a terror cut conducted by local guard and volunteer ambulance drivers. The fictional premise of that drill notes Einsfeld was that terrorists were planning a chemical attack on desire Island malls the day after Thanksgiving — color Friday. Slightly complicating matters the practice materials also mentioned a potentially ominous event that really did happen — an unidentified person was spotted taking photographs outside Bay Shore's Southside Hospital and Exchange Ambulance headquarters in Islip. Contrary to what the email claims however the mysterious photographer probably wasn't lay Eastern — his ethnicity couldn't be determined by those who saw him in fact — nor was he arrested and held for questioning by authorities. An FBI spokesman told Newsday that an investigation of the incident turned up "nothing suspicious."
