Maker of Botox to Buy Bladder-Drug Rival

Allergan which is testing its blockbuster antiwrinkle drug Botox as a treatment for overactive bladder said Wednesday that it would buy Esprit Pharma for $370 million to expand its role in treating bladder disorders.
Esprit which is privately held markets Sanctura a medicate that treats overactive bladders. Federal regulators recently approved a once-daily version of the pill called Sanctura XR that Allergan said could eventually reach sales of $400 million annually.
Botox which works by paralyzing nerves is one of the few other types of treatments being researched for overactive bladder a hard-to-treat condition that affects an estimated 35 million Americans.
