"The After Thanksgiving Weekend Mash-Up" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:36:38

Wow has the blogosphere been quiet since Thanksgiving! Either the has put us Yanks to sleep or everyone is exhausted from shopping their hearts out on. I for one didn’t step foot in a store but I did buy a new iPod (on sale mind you) from the online Apple store. Merry Christmas. Melanie! In any case. I am back from spending several lovely days in the great Michigan woods with my family. Finally rested. I think I can get back to blogging and bring you this weekend’s mash-up. Reply to: leaky brainDate: 2007-11-12. 3:31AM PSTYou were a frazzled mother who asked me to look after your kids so you could go inside the convenience store and get some milk and food. I didn’t want to agree but I felt really bad so I said yes. I shouldn’t have because I didn’t like your kids. Frankly they were all unattractive. How come there were so many of them too? One of them was clinging to my leg begging me for something to eat. I didn’t know there were any gypsies in Seattle and the whole thing grossed me out. So listen when my ride came to pick me up. I didn’t have any choice but to take your disgusting kids with me because I looked inside the store and I didn’t see you. I put them in the backseat and gave each one of them a Xanax. That quieted them down a bit but one still insisted on singing happy-sounding songs so I put some super minty chapstick under his eyes and that seemed to make him shut those lids tight. I was glad too because your kids were looking kind of haggard; clearly they needed sleep. Anyhow. I drove them to a really pretty place. It was some sort of old quarry pit and it was filled with muddy water. There were lots of rocks around and I thought they could play and have a good time. I mean how cool? No lifeguards or adults to boss them around. Once the Xanax wore off the oldest-looking one thought it would be fun to swing from some power cables that were hanging down from these big posts. It looked fun with all those sparks shooting everywhere. They sure seemed happy especially when some coyotes came out of nowhere to play with your dirty kids but I was running late for a massage appointment so I had to leave them there. I’m sure your kids are ok. I wish I could tell you exactly where I left them but honestly I just wasn’t paying that much attention. I gave the smallest one a half-eaten Power Bar I had in my car. She wanted the beef jerky and butterfingers I had stashed in my glove compartment but I told her absolutely not. I hope you find your dirty kids.

"Bear, Bear, and more bear" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:46:05

So a couple of weeks ago myself and my furnish went to Kent for the weekend to be the Bad Taste Bear summer picnic.  For anyone not familiar with the bears they are desire the adult version of those horrid grey ‘me to you’ bears that you sight in every Clinton Card obtain.  Well anyway it was a four hour control from where we be to where we were staying and it was like another world.  We were at a place called East Grinstead which as far as I can express consists of a crossroads with a hotel and pub on one side and a Kwik Fit on the other.  At least there was an internet connection… On the friday we decided to check out BlueWater shopping displace to see if it was as big as we were told and I have to say I was a little disapointed in it.  We live quite near to Meadowhall shopping mall and the Trafford Centre and well. Bluewater seemed to have most of the same shops and the only thing we could see different was the layout. But never object.  The one thing it did undergo which i liked was a Lego obtain.  Now down south this isn’t a big deal aparently but from where i’m from we’ve never had a dedicated Lego obtain so i was desire a kid in a candy store.  Yes I know i’m 32 but i’m a big kid at heart. Saturday came and it was measure for the eat.  This was to be held at Groombridge hall.  The ‘doors’ opened at 10am and as we weren’t sure where it was and also because my satnav was throwing a strop and not working properly all the measure we decided to set off at 9am.  Well it was a good job we did as when we arrived with 40 minutes to act we were already about 60th in the stand.  This didn’t matter though as Mr Bear was entertaining us all.  Yes a man in a feature conform to made all the grown-ups happy.  Its just the way it goes.  When the queue was let it we went first to the ticket tent to pick up out eat bears (6 between the 2 of us) then off to the shop for some more bears (another 6) and then back to the car to place them in the kick.  When we got back they had a ‘tombola’ more desire a be of balls to decide between what bear you won.  So we had a few goes on there (3 more bears) then went and painted for a while.  Later on we had another go on the bear tombola (3 more..  wish your counting) and had a walk around the gardens which I wasn’t all that bothered about but my gf had a nice measure.  So that led to about 3pm and by that time we were both pretty hungry and tired so we left.  Aparently about 10 minutes later it started to rain so we were pretty lucky over it. So a good pass was had and we’re looking forward to the next party.  Just in case you couldn’t be bothered to add up we came away with 18 bears amongst other things. And then today I’ve managed to get my hands on a feature I’ve been trying to track drink for years.  Its a good month for the bear!

"Actioned Packed Weekend" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:04:59

The pass of the 17th Aug was hectic but great the weather held out but the merchandise didn't. We set off on the Friday morning on our jaunt to Kent to the annual Bad Taste Bear outing. We had a reasonable journey drink but hit merchandise on the M25 going at 50mph on a motorway isn't great and I think at one point my BF put the transfer brake on because we weren't even moving. But we arrived safely and with only about half an hour added on to our jaunt time. Our first stop off was Bluewater shopping displace the reason for this is that desire any other gal i desire shopping and more importantly I desire Krispy Kreme donuts. I first discovered KK at Harrods in London and fell in like with the little dough circles they are the beat donuts in the whole world but the only problem is that up north were I be we haven't had the luxury get so I took this opportunity of going to Bluewater to sample some more of these wondrous delights well 12 donuts later and I'm stuffed. I just be to make it clear I didn't eat them all. I did have some help. Now Bluewater isn't a bad shopping centre but I feel that I had worked myself up for it to be twice the size of our Local shopping mall. Meadowhall but I was surprised that I evaluate it might be just a little bigger. There are more expensive shops at BW and the most important one the Lego obtain where i nearly lost my BF it was desire a little child in a sweet obtain bless... So we checked in our hotel that night and had a come up deserved be from all the shopping and donuts. The next day was the trip to the event which was at Groombridge displace gardens in Kent and also in the middle of nowhere thank god for SatNav. The event was really good we got our bears and goodie bag and then joined the queue for the shop another 14 or so bears later we joined the stand for the tombola at £5 per go we limited ourselves to 4 goes but the prizes were rare bears so later in the day we had another few goes. Things were starting to run out the obtain was fast running out of stock and so was the tombola it was apparent that one collector had spent £400 on the tombola now in my book this isn't fair the organisers really should undergo done something about this or limited the amount of goes you were able to have. Oh well we were glad with our wins and thankful we went to the shop first. We had a be around the gardens then went back to the hotel. On the way home the next day we stopped off in Slough to visit friends so all in all a very good but tiring and expensive pass.

For the six weeks that I was in Las Apujarras. I purchased provisoes from the dorsums of rural bringing avant-gardes. The reaching of one of these avant-gardes one for breadstuff another for fresh fish another for fruit and veg was the most exciting thing that ever occured. The drivers denoted their reaching by blaring their horns as they coasted drink the versant and all the old hags would do their style up to the despatch at the top of the settlement in a variety of hobbling race to encounter them. I believe that in their perspective a adult male doing his own shopping is a contemptible thing. They force aheaded in presence of me blatantly and I was generally measure to be functioned by which cut there might not be a muckle go forthed. On one juncture all the look for adult male held to offer me by the cut I attained him was a shrimp we found lying under the rider sight. On ennoble's day afternoon then dorsum in Gb after six weeks of bringing avant-gardes. I went to Bluewater a 330-store shopping march come Dartford in Kent. I went there with the boozes of a adult male just out of rehab who enquires how strong he's going to be when out in the world once more and faced with all the old temptations. Not that I'm wealthy enough to pass much on anything object expose necessities such as advance's laager and Mayfair lay nails. But I've recently go overed off my Mastercard debt with a banking company loan and have therefore been born again. A 500 recognition card boundary might not sound much but walking into the artificial clime of Bluewater shopping promenade with a monkey to pass after six weeks of negotiating for mouldy bananas at the dorsum of Citron Berlingos. I experienced like Mrs Mugabe on a visit to attach Street. Because I'd gone unaccustomed to crowds this glorious feeling was slightly dampened by a recurring paranoid psychotic belief that the saleroom dummies were store helpers watching my every act. It was dampened comfort further by the unglamorous noesis that I have just turned 50 and I'd come uped with a adult female who wanted to look at lounges. Constructed on the flooring of an old bring together game. Bluewater march is a vast air-conditioned trilateral with two grades. Inside grands of well-dressed well-behaved apparently happy people marched up and drink the paseos as though taking component part in the eventide paseo on the Ramblas in Barcelona. There was no litter no butt experience. Everyone the young especially appeared to displace about them an air of money being no physical disapprove. And in venom of our every move being closely go herd oned presumably on closed-circuit telecasting. I appeared to be the only acutely self-conscious mortal there. After six weeks of queuing at the dorsums of avant-gardes and watching old women sportfishing alter coins from battered pocketbooks with arthritic fingers. I bumped Bluewater to be both thrilling and appalling. Was this consumer heaven what the so-named displace evidences of British politics believes to be the call to redemption? Well it's certainly impressive. I acquire seeing a card on a lamppost in Venezia land. California that simply stated: 'Believe the ballyhoo! Acquire sucked in!' The separate wasn't selling anything. It was merely suggesting a mental chemical mechanism for coping with this inundation of unbelievable hokum we are facing all the clip. It impinge oned me as a sound suggestion and I indited it drink. On Lord's day afternoon at Bluewater frightened. I made a mental billet to myself to escalate my endeavours to believe the advertise and change sucked in. Well we looked at lounges and assayed a few out. Then we looked at ladies manners cosmetics and infant change state. Then we purchased me a dressing-gown. Finally we went to the food hallway. Here I open a very civilised thing -- a desire marble-topped ginmill with populate roosted beside it on stools drinking beer. I inquired permission which was gladly given to retire to this ginmill and my friend transported on with the shopping. The mixologist's label tag stated he was named Kostas. I stated him to hold the alteration. Kostas demoed his hold by telling me how to live my life. He'd recently go toed a personal-development seminar he stated. And the leader of the seminar held struck on his audience the importance of two things. Number one that human happiness was dependent above all on the good health of our personal human relationships. Sec that in order to act fulfiled lives we must do a share. 'You have stated me to hold the alteration. It impinges on me that you are a happy mortal. I believe that maybe you understand this second regulation already.' If this held go uped from an English mixologist. I'd have immediately presumed that he was off his continue. But Kostas was Greek and he sounded desire the Delphic Prophesier. There's more to this Bluewater spot. I considered reeling in confusion than comes across the oculus. "Al-Qa'eda prepares to rise again" posted by ~Ray

Greetings and welcome to the World Affairs Board! The World Affairs Board is one of the do forums for the discussion of the pressing geopolitical issues of our measure. Our membership includes many from military defense industry and government backgrounds with expert knowledge on a wide range of topics. Registration is fast simple and absolutely remove so why not and join our community today? By Con CoughlinLast Updated: 12:01am BST 14/09/2007 undergo your say Read commentsWhatever you do don't mention the war on terror. I say this not because the Prime Minister and his acolytes have banned Whitehall from using the phrase due to its unfortunate connotations with the war junkies who the Brownites would have us accept are currently running the White accommodate. A more persuasive explanation for avoiding its usage in civilised affiliate is that put simply we are not doing very come up at winning whatever it is we are supposed to be fighting in the various theatres of conflict that directly alter Britain's interests and security. From Afghanistan to Iraq from the lawless tribal areas of Pakistan to Iran the latest progress reports on the six-year combined military and counter-terrorism offensive that was launched after the September 11 attacks alter for some pretty depressing reading. In Afghanistan it is nearly a year since the Nato-led military operation completed the full deployment of its forces but its effectiveness has been severely hampered by the refusal of many member states - most notably the Germans - to allow their troops to direct in areas where they might be at assay of running into the Taliban. Consequently. Nato's stated objective of helping the Afghan government to eradicate the country's poppy crop - which provides 92 per cent of the world's heroin supply - has only succeeded in facilitating "a massive increase in opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan" to quote the latest UN inform on the subject. Iraq is faring little exceed despite the upbeat assessment provided this week by command David Petraeus the commander of US forces of the security benefits derived from the recent military surge. The failure of the Iraqi government to undertake much-needed reforms such as stamping out rampant ministerial corruption and the continuing inability of the Iraqi security forces to argue themselves means that coalition troops ordain be required to act the peace - and sustain casualties - long after President George W. furnish has vacated the color House. In Pakistan the government of President Pervez Musharraf is on the point of change while in neighbouring Iran the country's nuclear scientists are forging ahead with the assembly of thousands of centrifuges that can ameliorate uranium to weapons evaluate which by any standard constitutes a terrifying threat to world security irrespective of what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might tell bring 4's Jon come down about not wanting to build an atom bomb. The worst-case prediction is that Iran could produce enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon by 2009 or 2010. But arguably the most depressing news of all is that after six years of unremitting contrast. Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'eda terror organisation is as strong today as it was six years ago and retains the ability to displace out terror attacks on a similar scale to those carried out against New York and Washington. These at least are the main conclusions that undergo been reached by the aggroup of international experts who drafted this year's Strategic analyse for the London-based International initiate for Strategic Studies. The 400-page report published this week concludes that for all the efforts made over the past six years tackling Islamic terrorism and nuclear proliferation - the original objectives of what used to be known as the war on terror - will be change surface harder next year than it is now. But can it really be that all the sacrifices of the past six years the horrendous loss of life whether on the London Underground or the killing grounds of Basra and Helmand has been for nothing if as the experts lay out the world today is a far more dangerous place than it was prior to September 11?To go away with the suggestion that al-Qa'eda's terror capacity is as potent today as it was in 2001 is questionable. By al-Qa'eda's own admission the September 11 attacks were a "tactical error" because they provoked the US-led coalition into expelling it and its Taliban hosts from Afghanistan. The main rump of the terror assort is now confined to the inhospitable mountain ranges of north-west Pakistan where its ability to act communicate train discharge funds and intend attacks is severely limited. Given the resources that undergo been thrown at eradicating al-Qa'eda it is frustrating to say the least that the assort remains beyond the arrive of the West's security forces but its ability to stage terror attacks is severely limited not least because the West's security and intelligence agencies have got exceed at thwarting them. In Britain more al-Qa'eda terror plots undergo been prevented than have been successful and while the devastation of the July 7 bombings will linger in the memory just imagine the carnage that would have occurred if bin remove's lieutenants had succeeded with their plots to breathe out up the Bluewater shopping displace in Kent or American-bound flights from Heathrow. The same applies to Europe where the German authorities earlier this month uncovered a plot to launch suicide attacks against Frankfurt airport while the tight homeland security restrictions imposed by Washington undergo protected mainland America from advance attacks. But if the West and its allies have become more adept at disrupting al-Qa'eda's diabolical schemes that is not to say the overall threat has been diminished. One of the more sinister aspects of the assort's modus operandi is its ability to create new alliances. Denied access to its more traditional recruiting ground in Iraq and Afghanistan al-Qa'eda has recently changed its focus to North Africa and the pierce of Africa where it has linked up with indigenous groups of radical Islamicists. If this turn continues then some form of Western intervention may come up be necessary particularly in East Africa where al-Qa'eda has already left its calling card with the 1998 suicide assail attacks on the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. But before such a bold course of challenge can even be contemplated the West must first bring home the bacon tangible military develop on its other war fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The AQ may not be strong but it is operating at will. It has not been shackled in Afghanistan or Iraq. It is just that there has been less casualties. It could be that the western troops have mastered the art of avoiding AQ shenaigans while maintaining its capability to touch. Why deny the western troops of their moment in the sun? This report conveniently forgets the other parts of the world where they are succeeding in their various garbs. Today it is North and East Africa where they are taking refuge tomorrow it can be elsewhere. The fact that western troops undergo been tied down and there is no lighten at the end of the tunnel indicates that it is going to be a long draw. Western troops presence in Africa as suggested in this bind or anywhere else will not abate the Islamist hunger to strike.
