PSU women suffer first defeat

Penn express continued its strong play to open the toughen Thursday night but was sent to its first defeat in four contests. The Lady Lions coming off their WBCA/Basketball Travelers Classic championship last week owned the lead late but were unable to hold on en route to a 72-68 loss to Xavier on Thursday night in Cincinnati. Wolff hit a jumper in the lane to tie the game at 58-58 but back-to-back baskets by Harris made it a four-point Xavier lead (62-58) with 1:43 on the clock. Williams cut the lead to two points (62-60) with a jumper with 1:24 remaining. With 49 seconds left. Gissendanner corralled the rebound after Ta'Shia Phillips missed the back-end of a two-shot hit but was stripped of the ball while splitting two Xavier players. The steal resulted in a three-point play for Harris that made it a six-point lead for the Musketeers at 66-60. Gissendanner made a two-pointer and Grant sunk a pair of 3s in the final minute to close the gap but Special Jennings made six free throws to give Xavier the win.
